Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)

Shift: Shift 1

Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM – 4:30:00 PM)

Summary:

The rehabilitation technician provides support to the inpatient and outpatient departments under the direction of the Therapists. Support includes patient transportation, participation in prescribed treatment task preparation, equipment I supplies inventory / ordering, and general clerical tasks. The rehabilitation technician may perform extensions of treatment as allowed in each discipline’s practice act. The rehabilitation technicians provide major support in department infection control and wheelchair management. All services are provided in a manner that promotes the highest level of satisfaction with all customers. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:

- Maintains current CPR certification

- Flexibility and ability to manage work in a changing environment

- Basic proficiency with a computer keyboard

- Available to work weekends and holidays

- Organizational and time management skills for multiple demands

Responsibilities:

Ethical Standards of Practice

- Delivers services consistent with the established RUSH Oak Park Hospital Mission and Philosophy.

- Maintains patient confidentiality and respects the rights and dignity of all individuals.

Patient Safety

- Based on the patient’s cognitive, physical and functional status, uses safe and appropriate guarding techniques and assistive / adaptive devices.

- Maintains knowledge of policies concerning precautions, codes, conditions, warnings and general safety procedures.

- Performs infection control activities daily, maintaining required infection control logs.

- Assists in maintaining all patient treatment areas in a neat and orderly manner.

Communication

- Communicates effectively with patients and care givers at levels appropriate to their age, cognitive status and language abilities.

- Interacts and practices in collaboration with a variety of professionals.

- Participates in patient – related conferences, organizational, and professional meetings as required

- Communicates with other rehabilitation technicians to determine department needs on a daily basis.

Direct Care to the Persons Served

- Assumes responsibility and accountability for patient assigned for transportation, assistance.

- Supports patient and family teaching by reinforcing rehabilitation concepts.

- Under the direction of the therapist, assists with 1:1, group and/ or joint treatment sessions as practices allow.

- Maintains productivity level established by department policy.

- Schedules and prioritizes workload.

- Assists in patient scheduling.

- Assists in transferring patients on the nursing unit and in the therapy areas; transports patients to and

from therapy and EMGs.

- Responsible for wheelchair management for assigned areas.

Adaptability and Flexibility

- Provides service as assigned based on census and patient needs.

Professional Development

- Identifies professional strengths, areas of refinement and assumes responsibility for professional growth.

- Participates in continuing education opportunities, department education and mandatory education.

Instruction and Supervision

- Participates in the orientation ofnew employees.

Miscellaneous

- Assists in performance improvement and supports developmental and quality focused initiatives.

- Contributes to the cost effectiveness of services and programs provided by the department.

- Communicates suggestions related to opportunities for improvement and maintaining positive relations with all customers.
