The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement (OVCIA) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks a full-time Associate Director of Recruitment and Onboarding. The Associate Director will lead talent strategy and onboarding for advancement-specific positions across campus. The ideal candidate will be a professional with demonstrated experience in building and maintaining trusted, collaborative relationships in a complex environment, developing robust recruitment strategies attracting a diverse pool of talent, and contributing to a high performing team.

Organizational Relationships and Job Summary

As a member of the OVCIA's newly reconstituted People & Culture team (formerly known as Talent Management) and reporting to the Director of Employee Experience, the Associate Director of Recruitment and Onboarding will play a critical role in leading and executing a robust recruitment strategy, with an emphasis on inbound recruitment, as well as effective onboarding tactics, ensuring new hires are set up for success. This position will work closely with advancement hiring managers, the Recruitment & Onboarding Associate, the People & Culture team, and other advancement colleagues to create a work environment that embodies our values: Exemplify Integrity; Practice Empathy; Embrace Collaboration; Inspire Innovation, and Enable Impact.

Job Summary
Will be leading and executing a robust recruitment strategy, with an emphasis on inbound recruitment, as well as effective onboarding tactics, ensuring new hires are set up for success.

Duties & Responsibilities

Working closely with OVCIA and advancement colleagues across the organization, the Associate Director of Recruitment and Onboarding will oversee the following areas that impact the work of functional teams in the OVCIA and the colleges/units:

Recruitment
• Lead and execute overall recruitment strategy for advancement-specific positions across campus, with an emphasis on inbound recruitment tactics. Develop inclusive and effective sourcing and recruitment practices to identify, attract, cultivate, recruit, and nurture top talent.
• Lead recruitment initiatives at professional development conferences through networking and strategic engagement strategies.
• Create and ensure positive candidate experience and build rapport through individual meetings with prospective candidates to develop robust talent pipeline for advancement openings. Provide resources and guidance, including individualized resume and cover letter review, search process education, and updates as appropriate.
• Drive effective recruitment marketing strategies by taking a consultative approach with hiring teams, as well as advise on job posting and advertisements, including LinkedIn and other relevant sites.
• Provide expertise and program knowledge of the OVCIA Resume and Cover Letter Redaction Procedure for all centrally funded OVCIA searches. Research and use knowledge of best practices to make recommendations for process improvements and comprehensive documentation.
• Serve as a trusted talent advisor for hiring managers via comprehensive intake analysis and assessment for vacancies and new positions, recommending tailored sourcing strategies and educating about current job market trends.
• Stay abreast of recruiting trends, best practices, and innovative recruiting techniques to drive the development of ongoing creative and cost-effective sourcing strategies.
• Track metrics on candidate sourcing efforts and prepare reports on recruitment activities.

Onboarding
• Develop and lead comprehensive and role-specific onboarding programs for advancement new hires. Collaborate and coordinate with hiring managers and OVCIA advancement colleagues as appropriate.
• Provide onboarding and career support to advancement new hires through one-on-one check-ins as appropriate, aligning individual goals with organizational objectives.
• Co-facilitate new employee orientation session with People & Culture team partners.

Supervisory & Operational
• Provide supervision, guidance, support, and mentorship to Recruitment & Onboarding Associate, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
• Attend and represent the People & Culture team at Advancement-wide professional development sessions and employee engagement activities.

Within 3 months, you will:
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders from OVCIA, UIF, advancement leadership, and advancement colleagues across the organization.
  • Familiarize yourself with existing University and OVCIA recruitment, onboarding, human resources, and DEI policies, frameworks, and initiatives.
  • Understand Illinois' fundraising structure, fundamentals, values, and culture.
  • Participate in joint informational meetings with prospective candidates with current recruitment staff and begin to create your own meeting outline/approach.
  • Attend trainings, professional development, and networking activities for newcomers within advancement.
Within 6 months, you will:
  • Understand the various roles and functions of advancement across the University and begin familiarizing yourself with job descriptions, search processes, and onboarding offerings.
  • Begin active sourcing and cultivating relationships with prospective applicants to build talent pipeline.
  • Become the OVCIA point person for search process guidance and support.
  • In collaboration with People & Culture colleagues, lead parts of the monthly orientation presentations for new hire onboarding purposes.
By the end of the first year, you will:
  • Propose changes to search process and procedure to enhance the experience for both our internal stakeholders and external candidates.
  • In collaboration with OVCIA Advancement Operations colleagues, create and update tailored onboarding processes and resources for new hires.
  • Establish a standardized recruitment marketing strategy for advancement searches.
  • Begin strategizing for the next year, taking into account lessons learned, feedback received, and future organizational goals. Cooperatively set annual goals with your supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.

Three (3) years (36 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
Demonstrated experience in professional recruitment, human resources, fundraising development, or a closely related field which requires strong relationship building and outcome driven components.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated success in cultivating, developing, and enhancing professional relationships.
• Experience with recruitment marketing and/or marketing content creation for a similar purpose.
• At least one human resources endorsement or certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g. SHRM Certified Professional, Certified Diversity and Inclusion Recruiter, Professional in Human Resources).

• Ability to employ critical thinking skills, creativity, and ingenuity for effective and timely problem solving.

• Ability to speak and write persuasively, as well as engage in active listening.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after close date. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000.
