Tissue Engineering Laboratory Manager - BeckmanBeckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology
Job Summary
Lead laboratory operations for a new facility to produce engineered tumor models. Lead a team of students and faculty within the Cancer Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to produce cell culture products. The manager will contribute to the scientific direction of the laboratory, oversee equipment acquisition and operations and manage day-to-day research operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, standardize and optimize technical processes within the operation.
- Provide training and oversight to new users, including participation in workshops and preparation of materials for dissemination.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize tissue culture processes and scale-up production.
- Manage the tissue culture process and maintain accurate records.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Tissue Culture Lab, including initiation of new processes, production planning, media preparation and sterilization, tracking growing cultures, facility logistics and user scheduling.
- Assist in the design and development of tissue-engineered constructs using biomaterials and cell-based approaches.
- Conduct experiments to evaluate tissue-engineered products.
- Analyze data, troubleshoot issues and propose solutions to enhance manufacturing protocols.
- Stay current with industry trends, scientific literature and emerging technologies.
• Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering or related field.
• 5 years of experience in laboratory management.
Preferred Qualifications
• PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering or related field.
• Strong background in tissue culture techniques, sterile procedures and lab safety. Experience with cancer cell culture and propagation.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques, data analysis and scientific communication.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of R&D laboratory policies and best practices.
- Experience in managing automated laboratory processes.
- Familiarity with biohazardous and chemical waste management.
- Experience with 3D bioprinting, scaffold design and cancer cell biology is highly desirable.
- Exposure to FDA policies and procedures for engineered cellular therapies.
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the posting period closes. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000/year. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements and budget constraints.
