About the Team

The Data Science team provides critical insights and tools to help the executive leadership team, technology teams, and business units optimize test delivery, test development, and test security. Our expertise is understanding a wide array of business problems and using a variety of techniques including data analysis, machine learning, and software engineering to create value from data and support decision making. We are outcome-driven and have a passion for applying new technologies to produce valuable insights and become a force multiplier for the programs we serve. Our small tight knit self-organized team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning DevOps Engineers collaborates closely and uses creative problem solving to tackle difficult challenges for many of the organization's strategic initiatives. About the Opportunity

As an Engineer III on the Data Science team, you are a highly motivated, poly-skilled technologist and problem solver. You have exceptional programming skills and experience in developing microservices, building data pipelines, automating data analyses, as well as deploying and monitoring machine learning models. You also possess extensive knowledge DevOps activities such as automating repetitive tasks, leveraging configuration management tools, managing deployments, and monitoring services. You are energized by collaboration with teammates and a desire to stay abreast of new technologies. You think critically about problems and build generalized solutions because you understand the goals and can anticipate others' needs.

In this role, you will

Build Data Pipelines

Design and Implementation (60%)

  • Design, develop, and manage applications and microservices

  • Develop highly performant batch and streaming data pipelines

  • Build and manage relational databases, NoSQL databases, and knowledge repositories

  • Develop automated test suites

  • Develop and maintain a website to share data, analyses, and reports

  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure smooth integration of services

  • Develop a deep understanding of user needs and drive projects from beginning (collaboratively defining requirements) to end (monitoring and operation of production service)

Team Operations & Success (40%)

  • Help the team break down the work into manageable tasks and support our Agile maturity

  • Define and provision cloud infrastructure in code

  • Substantially improve the team's productivity and quality by enhancing tools, processes, and code structure

  • Promote Dev Ops and AWS best practices within the team to improve quality, reduce risk, increase security, promote efficiency and reuse, and minimize costs

  • Learn and contribute to organization-wide DevOps best practices

  • Assist in the identification and resolution of production issues

About you, you have:

  • Ideally a Master's in a quantitative discipline or computer science, OR a Bachelor's and 3-5 years related experience, OR 5+ years related experience OR a great story to tell

  • Programming expertise in Python

  • Knowledge in developing applications on a Serverless or Microservices cloud platform (AWS/Azure/GCP, etc.)

  • Experience with serverless compute including AWS Lambda, Fargate, Step Functions

  • Expertise in Git, including branching workflows

  • Experience automating software deployments using tools like AWS CDK, Serverless, or Terraform

  • Knowledge in CI/CD, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and Agile

  • Strong practical Linux-based systems administration skills and shell-scripting experience in a cloud-based environment

  • Experience with monitoring tool suites (e.g. Cloudwatch)

  • Working knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancing and firewalls

  • Working knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g. Docker)

  • Basic knowledge of JavaScript, CSS and HTML

  • A passion for solving difficult problems creatively

  • Excellent communication and listening skills, and are able to help others understand both problems and solutions

  • Worked within a close-knit team and enjoy helping your colleagues succeed

  • You are authorized to work in the US

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $120,000 to $131,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.Your salary will be carefully determined based on your location, relevant experience, the external labor market, and the pay of College Board employees in similar roles. College Board strives to provide our best offer up front based on this criteria.
