Position Summary 
 The successful candidate will develop and manage the laboratory safety program for the Dept. of Natural and Health Sciences. The candidate will also oversee the Chemistry teaching laboratories, including laboratory setup, student workers, and supplies and equipment, and the Chemistry research laboratories. This is a 12 month, full-time (30-40 hours a week) appointment under the direction of the Department Chair.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities 
 * Coordinate and supervise the setup of equipment and supplies for Chemistry teaching labs each day
* Communicate lab needs with Chemistry faculty (full-time and adjunct), including requesting syllabi and compiling supply orders for courses
* Coordinate with Lab Coordinator the purchasing of all supplies and equipment for Chemistry teaching and research labs
* Store and inventory chemicals, supplies, and equipment for Chemistry
* Maintain SDS sheets for Dept. of Natural & Health Sciences
* Organize and maintain Chemistry teaching labs, and preparatory and storage rooms
* Maintain the chemical hygiene plan and lab safety plan for the Dept. of Natural and Health Sciences
* Present annual reports to Department Chair and Chief Academic Officer on lab safety and hazardous waste
* Properly dispose of chemical and hazardous waste from teaching and research labs used by the Dept. of Natural and Health Sciences
* Train all science faculty (full-time and part-time), Science Fellows and student lab workers on lab safety and equipment use, both general and chemistry-specific
* Maintain lab equipment each day for Chemistry
* Coordinate major equipment repairs for the Dept. of Natural and Health Sciences
* Manage Science Fellows for Dept. of Natural and Health Sciences, including scheduling hours, educating and monitoring lab safety, organizing meetings, and communicating updates and needs with faculty member(s) supervising Science Fellows program
* Supervise Science Fellows and student lab workers in Chemistry teaching labs
* Manage day-to-day operations in Brown Science Hall, especially in coordinating repairs and needs with Maintenance and Safety & Security
* Supervise periodic checks of safety equipment, including first aid kits, eye washes, safety showers and fire extinguishers
* Perform other duties as assigned by Dept. Chair
Minimum Requirements 
 * Applicants must hold a B.S. or B.A. in Chemistry or closely related discipline
* Some experience with teaching laboratory setup and basic knowledge of safety in the science laboratory
* Applicants must be detail-orientated, able to work independently and in team settings, exhibit excellent problem-solving skills, and communicate effectively with staff, students and faculty
* Basic computer skills
* Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position
* Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university
Preferred Requirements 
 * M.S. in Chemistry or related discipline
* 2 or more years of experience coordinating science labs in higher education
* Knowledgeable about safe use and disposal of chemicals
* Some familiarity with OSHA and EPA regulations regarding laboratories
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule 
 This is a 12 month, full-time (30-40 hours a week) appointment under the direction of the Department Chair.
Physical Requirements of Position 
 Work is performed in both an office setting and laboratory setting. Exposure to chemicals used within undergraduate chemistry labs on a daily basis. The majority of this work is non-sedentary, with long periods of time standing up, walking, kneeling, and bending. Able to lift 40 lbs.
