Job Summary:
The Eichner Laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at Northwestern University invites applications for a Research Technologist II position. The Eichner Laboratory studies transcriptional dependencies in cancer using molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, in vivo models, and next generation sequencing approaches. Dr. Lillian Eichner is an expert in lung cancer biology research. We are looking for highly motivated candidates to support our ongoing preclinical studies. Applicants are expected to have a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry or other equivalent biomedical fields. Conducts experimental research lab work and/or assists in design of one or more specific phase(s) of entire project(s). May complete mathematical calculations, and/or computer tasks and/or assist in judging validity of data. Follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices.
Specific Responsibilities:
Administration
Maintains growth statistics, space forecasts, backup systems, and infrastructure inventories.
Monitors and maintains continuity with system licensing and maintenance agreements.
Participates in change control.
Assists the efforts to ensure data/media recoverability.
Identifies training needs and keeps current on application technologies.
Maintains team ticket queues in accordance with cyberinfrastructure standards.
Creates documentation including operational guides and knowledge base articles.
Participates on IT wide projects and manages small project efforts.
Development
Assists with infrastructure installations and upgrades.
Assists with scheduling installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.
Performance
Monitors the systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
In collaboration with senior engineers, performs ongoing support and maintenance for systems and related applications.
Prioritizes, troubleshoots, and resolves issues.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as computer science, information technology, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
2 years' general IT or other relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
2 years of IT systems administration or equivalent experience
Experience with Red hat Linux Systems administration or equivalent experience
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to understand how an enterprise infrastructure is designed (Network, application, Database, Storage, Server)
Technical ability to translate business requirements into actionable information technology tasks.
Experience delivering technical solutions against desired business outcomes.
Experience in testing, evaluating, documenting, and communicating product and technical benefits to solutions.
Experience working in a team setting with a scheduled On-call support rotation.
