Job Summary

The Associate Director of Student Recruitment independently executes admission strategies, policies, and procedures. Works with minimal guidance to recruit, interview, evaluate, and select applicants for admission. The Associate Director of Student Recruitment will identify barriers to enrollment and develop strategies to improve our applicant pools, our admission practices, and our recruitment efforts for under-represented students. Develop a strategic plan and engage in specific outreach to under-represented applicant pools to increase applicant interest, applications, and yield.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee outbound prospect development and lead the development and execution of recruitment strategies (pre-enrollment strategies)
  • Develop strategy and execute specialized events for targeted recruiting of key student segments or policy areas
  • Build relationships and cultivate a pipeline of applicants from undergraduate programs and leading policy organizations
  • Design and develop outbound digital, phone, and in-person recruitment strategies and long-term enrollment goals for Harris Public Policy degree programs
  • Develop relationships with and advise prospective students via phone, email and in-person meetings
  • Continually improve processes associated with these activities to enhance prospective student satisfaction
  • Assist in overseeing the recruitment process (pre-enrollment process) to attract potential applicants
  • Oversee and assist with competitive analysis of peer institutions and the effectiveness of recruitment strategies
  • Manage and lead outreach activities resulting from interest to commitment
  • Develop relationships with and advise prospective students via phone, email and in-person meetings
  • Continually improve processes associated with these activities to enhance prospective student satisfaction
  • Present at information sessions and other events
  • Collaborate with the digital marketing partners; execute and curate social media outreach
  • Recruit qualified prospects into the applicant pool through Harris hosted events including, but not limited to, information sessions, lunch and learns and receptions across the country
  • Facilitate personal connections between students, alumni and prospective students
  • Track outreach and interactions in Slate, our prospect management system
  • Develop student acquisition for new degree programs
  • Facilitate personal connections between students, alumni and prospective students
  • Create partnerships with organizations to increase scholarships and financial aid
  • Collaborate with other teams at Harris to communicate goals and objectives of degree and executive education programs to increase revenue target
  • Review applications and interview candidates as needed. Formulate recommendations on suitability of applicants
  • Guide and manage the day-to-day administrative processes of the Recruitment team, collaborating with the Recruitment Coordinator as needed
  • Collaborate with other Harris department colleagues to explore and execute programming synergies
  • Participate in the Admissions Committee assisting in the final selection of admitted Masters students and in financial aid and scholarship award allocation decisions
  • Expands outreach messaging via alumni clubs and special events and/or reunions. Maintains updated alumni contact records and cultivates new contacts in appropriate industries. Manages portfolio of prospective students that require special handling
  • Manages regional event programming such as receptions and career trek field trips for students. Works independently to expand outreach to employers in the region
  • Performs other related work as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's degree strongly preferred in public policy or a social science discipline

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of managing recruitments and working with prospective students
  • Strong familiarity with Slate (Technosolutions) and its current assets and strategies
  • Proven track-record of creating high-volume application and lead generation growth at large scale institutions preferably in university recruitment or sales
  • Familiarity with higher education environment and knowledge of the University of Chicago's unique culture

  • Superior organizational skills required; ability to identify priorities, multi-task, and consistently meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to manage internal working relationships and interact and communicate with discretion, clarity, tact, and courtesy
  • Professional demeanor, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach to the job
  • Proven ability to manage a large book of business including maintaining and developing relationships with prospective students
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%
  • Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking experience
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and the ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Work well under pressure; ability to work independently as well as to be a flexible team player.
