Description:

Position Summary:
The Data Center Operations (DCO) team operates several mission critical data center spaces at UIC that serve enterprise and research computing needs for central IT and departmental units across the University of Illinois System. The Graduate Student will assist the DCO team and play a key part in ensuring the smooth functioning of our data centers. This role will be responsible for responding to data center ticketing requests, serving as the on-site liaison for vendors and partners, and helping to maintain documented processes and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist the DCO team in daily operations.
Respond to data center ticketing requests.
Serve as on-site liaison for vendors and partners.
Help maintain documented processes and procedures.
Assist with data center monitoring and incident response.
Assist with data center inventory and asset management.
Assist with server hardware installation, configuration, and maintenance.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:


Must be enrolled in a graduate degree program at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Computer Science or IT background.
Experience with computer hardware installation.
Experience with physical layer networking.
Experience with basic network configuration.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment and also independently. Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work 20 hrs/week during UIC summer and winter breaks strongly preferred.
Ability to respond to after-hours and weekend incidents strongly preferred.
Valid Illinois driver's license for use of University vehicle to access data centers across campus.
