UIC is seeking a skilled MR Imaging Technologist to oversee the operation of highly specialized MRI scanners for biomedical research studies, ensuring compliance with investigator protocols and institutional regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining advanced MRI research protocols, conducting data collection, management, and analysis, evaluating scanner and equipment performance, and addressing technical issues. Collaboration with fellow research MRI technologists, engineers, scientists, and principal investigators will be essential. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintain and update imaging protocols as needed.
Screen patients/subjects following departmental policies and safety standards.
Operate accessory instruments for research projects (e.g., fMRI stimulator, power injector, EEG, etc.).
Perform venipuncture and administer contrast media per institutional procedures.
Ensure cleanliness and orderliness in the MRI suite according to standards.
Conduct advanced MRI research image collection, verifying image quality, and transferring data to designated systems.
Collaborate with researchers on project design and objectives.
Ensure compliance with MR safety guidelines and IRB regulations.
Perform scanner quality assurance and assist with maintenance.
Report equipment failures and supply shortages to supervisor.
Develop and implement new research approaches based on project needs.
Test, customize, and implement new protocols, methods, procedures, and techniques.
Assist students and other MRI staff as needed.
Perform other assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

High school graduate or equivalent.
Current/Valid registration or certification of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) by either:
the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); OR
the American Register of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification
Preferred Qualifications:

MRI Technologist Certification (ARMRIT or equivalent) and at least 1 year experience as MRI scanner operator
Technical knowledge of MRI scan protocols and quality assurance procedures and safety guidelines
Strong knowledge of human and non-human primate anatomy, and MRI physics
