Job Description

CDW Technologies LLC seeks a Sr. Engineer – Managed Services Engineering – Mainframe CICS to manage and maintain IT infrastructure environments for Managed Services customers primarily for mainframe CICS TS software. The position ensures high levels of availability and security of the mainframe CICS TS software and focus on the operational stability and maintenance of virtualized and physical infrastructure in customer and/or hosted data center environments. Specific duties include:

  • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance with business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide primary support for reported problems related to mainframe z/OS, CICS TS, IBM MQ, and related independent vendor software products.
  • Develop, enhance, and support technical approaches that allow audits and scalable implementations of large, complex mainframe environments.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, and respond to system performance issues.
  • Conduct transaction, performance, and security audits.
  • Research and make recommendations on infrastructure products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Communicate and enforce data storage retention policies through system procedures.
  • Create scripts to automate common tasks.
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs.
  • Perform CICS TS management functions including software installations, version upgrades, product maintenance, configuration, and administration management.
  • Ensure system improvements and/or modifications are implemented.
  • Implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot client infrastructure solutions and mainframe products from vendors such as IBM, Broadcom, BMC, etc.
  • Participate in ongoing development and improvement of installation standards.
  • Plan, develop, configure, maintain, support, and optimize client network hardware, software, and communication links.
  • Perform database installations, updates/patches/upgrades, tuning, performance monitoring, replication, back-ups, security, user management, and resource management.
  • Facilitate project planning efforts by establishing and meeting work estimates, target dates, milestones and schedule.
  • Work with project managers in the development and implementation of project plans and timelines.
  • Provide technical perspective to ensure a realistic estimation of scope, cost, and level of effort for proposal generation.
  • Provide technical assistance regarding Disaster Recovery exercises, planning and business continuity processes.
  • Perform routine system backups and restores.
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for systems and/or database administration and appropriate use.
  • Develop reusable assets (templates, tools, etc.) for the Managed Services practice.
  • Research and make recommendations on infrastructure products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Follow change control, incident response, and testing processes.
  • Communicate and enforce, through system procedures, data storage retention policies.
  • Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for equipment performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements.
  • Create scripts to automate common tasks.
  • Assume a technical lead role on designated customers and/or technologies as needed.
  • Work with a variety of other tools and technologies including CICS TS, CICS TS peripheral software products from Broadcom, IBM, BMC and other independent software vendors, SMP/E, z/OS operating systems, VSAM data sets, JCL (Job Control Language), 3270 emulation software, and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Teams.

The job is based out of CDW’s Vernon Hills, IL headquarters but the employee may work remotely from anywhere in the U.S.
