Job Title: Performance Improvement Consultant

Job Duties: Rush University Medical Center seeks Performance Improvement Consultants (multiple positions open) in Chicago, IL to plan and execute all performance improvement initiatives for medical staff, hospital departments and committees. Collaborate with medical staff and hospital departments to develop quality improvement plans and identify improvement opportunities based on best practices and national benchmarks. Determine performance improvement strategies and consult with senior managers to assess, build, and implement a performance improvement infrastructure to support quality outcomes. Provide training and education to all levels of medical center regarding performance improvement methodology including measurement, analysis, development of improvement plan, and reporting of project results. Identify best practices and specific areas of opportunity by focusing improvement initiatives on effective management of cost and quality of patient care. Provide consultation regarding best practices with emphasis on process reengineering and systemic implementation. Facilitate successful transition of improvement initiatives to sustain project improvements. Create and monitor dashboards related to improvement activities. Develop and present data including executive summary reports, balanced score cards, and other reporting formats via committee structures as assigned. Local telecommuting is permitted up to 2 days per week.

Minimum Requirements: Position requires Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Health Systems Management, or a directly related field, plus 3 years of process improvement experience. The 3 years of experience must include 3 years of experience with each of the following: (1) process improvement methodologies, including Lean, Six Sigma-DMAIC, Kaizen, or A3 problem solving (PDCA); (2) identifying process improvement opportunities by measuring the lagging metric, establishing the baseline for Key Performance Indicators, and benchmarking the future state with industry standards and best practices; (3) determining the root cause by utilizing statistics, value, gap, and data analysis tools including Gemba, Process mapping, SIPOC, 5S, 5Why, Takt time, and visual management; (4) planning and executing process improvement initiatives in a healthcare environment including Pilot programs, Rapid Improvement Events (RIE), Lean Daily Management System (DMS), or Value Stream Transformation; and (5) Monitoring improved performance and presenting process improvement data utilizing Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
