Visiting Disruption Engineer -- Gies College of Business

Disruption and Innovation

Job Summary
The primary function of the position is to instruct and mentor students in the Disruption Lab, manage data for research and consulting activities, design, produce, and improve software and computational models, collaborate on project consulting, and participate in thought leadership exercises, leveraging skills in AI, machine learning, and blockchain languages.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaching/Instruction & Research
    • Lead and Instruct student teams in completing disruption lab consulting projects
    • Mentor students outside the classroom on the practical application of skills covered in their formal academic curricula • Provide practical instruction to student teams on new skills via the development of educational experiences
    • Gather, curate, and manage data for various consulting, instructional, and research activities
    • Build databases that support research across the college and campus
    • Develop new computational models, like generative AI models applied to new areas, that can be shared with Gies faculty
    • Recommend improvements to existing software products and processes
    • Document results and participate in strategic planning for future developments
    • Troubleshoot, debug, maintain, and improve existing software and software practices used throughout the Disruption Lab
  • Collaborate with Director of Disruption Lab, program managers, and clients to identify end-user requirements and specifications
    • Design algorithms and processes to create new software programs and systems
    • Produce efficient and elegant code based on requirements
    • Test and deploy programs and applications
    • Compile and assess user feedback to improve software and systems performance
    • Complete work using best software development practices
  • Other Duties as Assigned
    • Participate in thought leadership exercises and events
Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field

Experience:
Two years of progressively more responsible work experience in a related profession College course work which included Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows:
Demonstrated experience with programming languages used for artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain development and developing AR/VR software programs

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with different blockchain languages-Solidity and Rust
- Experience with Cloud environments, particularly AWS and Microsoft Azure
- Experience writing academic papers, white papers, or technical documents
- Experience with Kaltura, Compass, or Canvas
- Experience with creating tools that enhance the user's website experience
Agile team experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Artificial Intelligence:
    - Ability to use state-of-the-art deep learning tools and platforms
    - Understanding of AWS, Azure & GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker
    - Ability to write website code with programming languages such as HTML, C++, C#, and Java
    - Basic understanding of APIs and various communication models
    - Ability to find optimal solutions to the data engineering challenges
    - Sufficient knowledge of distributed computing principles, big data querying tools, SQL and NoSQL databases, and Lambda Architecture
    - Understanding of human-centered design principles
    - Ability to create and manage websites that are accessible across many platforms, including laptops and smartphones
  • Blockchain technology:
    - Ability to implement smart-contracts
    - Ability to learn and utilize private and public chains
    - Ability to work with internal and external clients to develop the functionalities with websites or web3 front ends
    - Deployment of React.js application
  • Metaverse:
    - Ability to take on the entire development process of AR/VR software program, including proper documentation, software maintenance, and testing
    - Familiarity with leading AR, VR, and metaverse environments-Unreal
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary range for the position is $112,000 to $130,000.
