Description
Employees in this title typically perform entry-level professional accounting work.
 Examples of Duties
ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE MANAGEMENT
Verify, process and monitor invoices from and payments to vendors.
Verify, process and monitor reimbursements to faculty and staff.
Review all Department Procurement card transactions. Report any issues to Business Administrator.
Completes time reporting for department's Bi-Weekly, Semi- Monthly and Monthly payroll. Submits applicable time reporting documents to Payroll and/or Benefits.
Maintain spreadsheet of accrued balances for all Otolaryngology employees and balance with Human Resources' Fringe Reports.
Review revenue reports with Business Administrator on a daily basis.
Run and analyze denial reports weekly and notify Department administrators of any issues / problems.
Liaise with Patient Business Services to ensure that the charges are posted on time and that the 'no response/denial' claims are worked in a timely manner.
Liaise with Coders to ensure denials from a coding issue are resubmitted in a timely manner to increase revenue and maximize conversion factors.
Responds to inquiries from physicians, Department and Business Administrators concerning requests for assistance with all denial cases.
Maintains and monitor open accounts receivables to shorten days medical claims are sitting open in AR.
Maintains and monitors contractual billing and payment recording.
Assembles, organizes, prepares, analyzes, and reports revenue data as requested by the Business Administrator or Department Administrator.
Collaborates with unit fiscal officers, Dean, directors, and other responsible administrators in development, evaluation, implementation, and operation of automated or manual accounting billing systems.
Assist with budget preparation.
Prepares periodic billing/claims reports requiring interpretation and routine analysis of receivable records.
Prepares monthly Charges vs. Collections report for each provider to analyze amount charged and reimbursed.
Department resource for all coding and billing issues. Assist physicians with finance questions.
Assists Business Administrator in tracking accounts receivable through various reports.
Completes the State Comptroller's Quarterly Accounts Receivables Reports for the Department.
Initiates and maintains tracking spreadsheets as requested by Business Administrator.
Other duties and projects as assigned.OTHER
Collects, enters, compiles and organizes information for recurring reports as needed.
Completes clinic inventory audits in accordance with State and University rules and regulations.
Coordinates with IT personnel and Office Administrator when clinical equipment is purchased/ exchanged in order to maintain an ongoing accurate inventory.

Qualifications

Any one, or any combination, that totals 3 yearsfrom the following:
work experience and/or training in Accounting or closely related field; or
college degree/course work with major in accounting or closely related field that included a minimum of 12 semester hours in accounting
Bachelor's degree or higher equals 3 years
90 semester hours equals 2 years
Associate's degree equals 18monthsCondition of Employment:  Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date.
