Academic Advisor - Actuarial Sciences & Risk Management Program

Actuarial Sciences & Risk Management Program are seeking an Academic Advisor. This position, under the guidance of the Director of the Actuarial Science and Risk Management Program, serves as the primary advisor to Undergraduate students in the program, provide counsel to Undergraduate students regarding professional
and career options, and assists with recruitment to the Actuarial Science program.

Duties & Responsibilities

Advising
  • Provide academic advising for all undergraduate Actuarial Science majors (approximately 200 students).
  • Field questions from students and parents about the Actuarial Science Program
  • Check freshman midterm grades and apply advising holds as needed.
  • Provide expert advice on Actuarial Science exams, internships and careers.
  • Serve as a liaison and internal resource between the Director, faculty, staff, students, Actuarial Science Club and other campus units (i.e. Office of Admissions, Registered Student Organization Office, etc.) as well as off campus visitors.
Assessment and Program Coordination
  • Monitor and assist in management of Actuarial Science and Risk Management courses and student registration.
  • Assist in research and reporting of information using student date and industry trends.
  • Assist in the management of undergraduate specific scholarship programs.
Outreach and Recruitment
  • Create content for the Actuarial Science newsletter and other promotional materials as it is related to the undergraduate program and student organization. Adhere to brand standards established by the university and College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Coordinate with and leverage resources and training provided by the college's Office of Communications and Marketing.
  • Assist in planning Actuarial Science Program events as they relate to undergraduate students.
  • Represent the Actuarial Science Program at meetings with corporate affiliates to discuss research and training opportunities for undergraduate students.
  • Assist in recruiting of undergraduate students and outreach activities on behalf of the department.
  • Meet with families during Orange & Blue Days and Admitted Student Days; provide a presentation or a Q&A with families of prospective or admitted students.
  • Organize and train a group of undergraduates to represent the department at special events.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or another quantitative.
  • Two years of professional work experience in the insurance, financial services industries or in academia, including proven track record of at least one year of experience in mentoring students and/or junior professionals, or of advising or teaching at the college or university level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or another quantitative field.
  • Professional credentials in actuarial science or risk management.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Banner software and website software
  • Ability to assume responsibility and to work independently with minimum guidance
  • Working knowledge of undergraduate academic program policy and procedures
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $50,000-55,000. Actual starting salary will be determined by the candidate's credentials and alignment with the position requirements. The employee hired into this position will be expected to work onsite on a full-time basis. Sponsorship for Work authorization is not available for this position.
