The Visiting Extension Outreach Associate, Community Economic Development (CED), serves as a full-time academic professional directly reporting to the County Director with work effort guidance and monitoring from the Extension Educator, Community and Economic Development.

The Visiting Outreach Associate's primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and implement education, community and economic development programs and content, curriculum, instructional materials, and other resources for University of Illinois Extension's CED work with the Illinois Grocery initiative, Healthy Food Financing Initiative and other assigned projects. This position is a member of the CED statewide team and supports the creation of instructional materials for statewide programming.

Three full-time positions are available.
Location: Unit 27 - Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pulaski, and Union Counties
(Positions will be housed in Union County - Anna, IL)
In state remote work options may be possible.
Additional positions may become available in other locations.

This is a security-sensitive position. Comprehensive background checks, including but not limited to a criminal conviction information check, a CANTS check, and a review of the Registered Sex Offender list, will be conducted.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program/Curriculum Development and Instruction
  • Plan/develop, and implement education programs, content and materials for instruction in communities. Content must be relevant and address the learning needs of target populations.
  • Conduct background research to support stakeholders in CED education and program implementation to ensure best practices.
  • Collaborate with team members to lead and contribute to successful execution of CED education and training deliverables.
  • Work with internal and external creative staff, such as videographers, graphic designers, and CED State Office staff team pertaining to the planning of training and the delivery of instructional materials.
Research and Evaluation
  • Be an active member within a professional society(s) to keep abreast of changes within your discipline. Continually seek professional development opportunities to enhance competency in subject matter areas.
  • Use research and evaluation findings to create innovative materials and make changes to existing nutrition education offerings in order to improve quality.
  • Share principles of evidence-based best practice with peers.
Organizational Requirements

  • Local, regional, statewide, and (limited) interstate travel required.
Additional Physical Demands
To perform the functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform work both within an office and outside in the communities that are served and must have the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timely fashion. Employee is responsible for securing personal transportation. A valid driver's license is preferred. Some work will be required during evenings and/or weekends. When working, the employee may be exposed to a variety of environmental factors to include, but not limited to, hot or cold weather, exposure to noise and allergens, and uneven ground. In performing the functions of this position, the employee may be subjected to various mental and physical demands as well to include, but not limited to, independently traveling to and performing work at different locations, ability to move, transfer and/or transport items that may occasionally weigh up to forty (40) pounds and frequently weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, and twisting, pushing and pulling movements. Administrative Relationship
The Visiting Extension Outreach Associate, Community and Economic Development, is administratively and programmatically responsible to the County Extension Director, Assistant Director of Region 3, and, Community and Economic Development Program Leader.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Community Economic Development, Business, Public Administration, Computer Science, Education, or a related field. Bachelor's degrees in other fields will be considered with work experience that demonstrates similar competencies. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in progress may be considered for interviews, but degree must be completed by hire date.
Experience:
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a community setting.
  • Ability to function effectively within a team setting.
  • Experience working with Qualtrics, Canva, and other productivity software.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with external vendors, such as videographers, graphic designers, and web developers.
  • Experience working within University settings/culture.
  • Familiarity with food deserts, business development, and issues evolving in small, independent grocery store sector.
  • Experience with preparing written materials for varying literacy levels.
  • Experience with digital education technology platforms and digital editing software.
  • Understanding of land-grant University Extension and ability to work effectively within Extension system.
  • Project management skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Appointment Information
Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for these positions. These are temporary, full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenured academic professional positions. These positions may become non-visiting at a later time dependent upon funding and/or programmatic needs. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The previously determined salary range for these positions was $55,000 to $70,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary while taking into consideration internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a calculation involving these elements. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at the top of the full range for this position.
