Job Description

General job duties. Types of procedures required.

General nursing skills – would prefer 1 year of nursing experience at least and at least 1 prior travel assignment. Working at a level 1 trauma center, SANE RN, working at a hospital w/residents. All preferred but not required. In the ED we have all types of patients. We care for newborns to the elderly with a very wide variety of complaints. We can for minor patients to critically ill patients. We care for critically ill patients and those in cardiac arrest. We care for those having strokes and heart attacks on a regular basis. Level 1/2 trauma patients are cared for in the trauma bay by a specialized team of nurses (trauma team). Travelers may care for traumas once they have been stabilized in the bay and transferred to a pod but will not likely be sent to the trauma bay as the primary nurse caring for these patients.

Required skills and minimum years of experience.

Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required.

BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC or TNS

Shift or schedule requirements.

12’s. Positions are not day/night rotating. Travelers are scheduled by the scheduling manager but can include time off requests in their contract and we will review and approve/deny based on our ability to accommodate the scheduling requests. We do allow block scheduling when we can.

No call requirement for travelers.

Every other weekend (Saturday / Sunday on Day Shift and either Friday / Saturday or Saturday / Sunday on night shift to follow unit patterns)

Every other Holiday (Days holidays are: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day. Nights holidays are: Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Memorial Day Eve, the 3rd of July Nights, and Labor day Eve)

Floating to other units/departments.

ED agency may be used in inpatient areas as a “help all” to cover needs.

This is very rare and typically not the travelers who are floated. This is new since covid and not something that happens frequently. A nurse in the ED would not be expected to take a team on another unit.

An ED nurse would not be required to take a team on an inpatient unit. If floated they would be a help all.

Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.

65 – all private

Nurse to patient ratio of this unit.

1:3-5 (variable based on acuity or needs of department )

Dress Code:

No specific colored scrubs. Tasteful scrubs with only solid colored shirts under a scrub shirt. Would suggest the applicant is provided with a copy of the dress code if they are concerned.

Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.

The first day is EPIC training and some mandatories in the department along with time on the floor. They then receive 2 full 12 hour shifts of orientation on the floor.
