Summary: The Data Architect is responsible for interpreting complex requirements and data sets, developing strategic data models that drive decision-making across the organization. This role is essential for designing and maintaining data models and reports that are critical for both organizational and program operations. By synthesizing data from various sources, the Data Architect boosts operational efficiency and facilitates data-driven decision-making. They ensure data accuracy and accessibility, empowering stakeholders to depend on and utilize reliable information effectively.
This exempt position will report to the Associate Director, IT in the Division of Information Technology. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for the acquisition and management of data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and accessibility. The Data Architect must prioritize the creation and maintenance of a semantic layer to enhance data interpretation and usability. Additionally, they must develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and storage solutions to facilitate efficient data analysis, troubleshoot data issues, and ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.


Utilize advanced statistical techniques and analytical skills to analyze data, identify trends, and provide robust, data-driven insights. This duty involves the creation of predictive models and algorithms to forecast outcomes and inform business strategies. The person in this role must be adept at using software tools and programming languages like SQL, Python, or R to manage complex datasets.


Design and deliver clear, comprehensive visualizations and reports to support the business in understanding data insights. This involves creating dashboards and presentations that summarize analysis results, highlight trends, and support strategic decisions. The Data Architect must ensure that all reporting is easily understandable and accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences, including teaching and supporting end-users in utilizing these tools effectively.


Provide analytical support for strategic projects, including market analysis, budge planning, and resource allocation. This role requires close collaboration with leadership to understand business needs and objectives, translating complex data into actionable insights that drive strategic planning and performance improvement.


Act as a liaison between the data team and other departments to ensure that data insights are aligned with organizational goals and implemented effectively. This includes leading meetings, providing analytical support, and working with department heads to integrate data-driven strategies into business operations.


Stay updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies in data analytics. The Data Architect is expected to continuously improve their technical skills and understanding of the business sector they are working in. This includes attending workshops, participating in training sessions, and obtaining relevant certifications to enhance their analytical capabilities and contribute to the team's overall success.
Required Education and/or Experience:
A minimum of 7+ years of similar technical experience, including experience with modern data architecture such as Data Mart, Lake House, and/or Data Lake is required (candidates without this experience will not be considered).


Strong capabilities in strategic data modeling and advanced SQL for data manipulation required.


Understanding of Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Synapse Analytics required.
