The Sr. Analyst - IT Data Specialist is deeply involved in the development and delivery of analytics at both the front end and back end of the process. At the front end, the successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to identify candidate data sources. Once these sources are identified, the Sr. Analyst will conduct data profiling exercises to assess the quality/suitability of data sources, and to identify data issues that will need to be addressed by the data engineering pipeline. Based on an understanding of the desired end result, the Sr. Analyst will work closely with Data Architects to develop logical data maps to translate source data into target formats. The Sr. Analyst will be deeply involved, along with the Architects, in preparing the data for the Data Engineering team to translate the logical mappings into operational data pipelines. On the back end, the Sr. Analyst will work closely with data consumers to validate accuracy and suitability of curated analytical data stores. A deep understanding of the data structure within source systems and nuances in how source systems process data is critical for this role. Developing this understanding requires a willingness to "dig in" and learn the details of source data. This role is also responsible for maintaining data discovery and data catalog tools to make enterprise data resources easier to discover and explore. Individuals filling this role will have a strong understanding of data analysis, metadata management and the ability to harmonize data across business segments. Strong analytical skills are needed in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources.

Responsibilities

Investigate new data sources and document the methods available to capture the data - sources can include, but are not limited to, internal systems, purchased data, open source data, SaaS applications.

Perform data profiling and data cleansing to assess the quality/suitability of new analytics data sources.

Create and maintain Logical Data Maps translating source data into target formats.

Facilitate creation of service accounts needed to allow data engineering tools to access new data sources.

Guide Dashboard/Report developers and other data consumers in locating suitable data sources for various analytics efforts.

Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in the usage of enterprise analytics data assets, guiding consumers in how to access, interpret and best use data assets.

Collaborate with other Data Specialists to help to ensure consistent usage of data assets across business functions, and eliminate duplication of data assets.

Develop mapping rules to harmonize similar data across multiple business segments, update metadata repositories, work with business experts to complete business glossary.

Work with Data Owners and Data Engineering to ensure the uniformity, accuracy, stewardship, semantic consistency of data assets.
