Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Endoscopy Manager, works as a member of the Endoscopy Team performing a variety of tasks related to the handling and reprocessing of endoscopes and endoscopy equipment. Transports patients as delegated by and under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

II. REPRESENTATIVE FUNCTIONS:

Prepares endoscopes for reprocessing; manually disinfects endoscopes and equipment in preparation for high level disinfection; uses brushes and suction to clean scope and valves; properly loads endoscopes into high level disinfector; unloads disinfector according to procedure. Changes multiple filters on the disinfector according to established schedule. Communicates any problems with supplies/equipment to the appropriate person.

Performs Quality Improvement (QI) audits on high level disinfectant daily and maintains QI log; tests quality of the scope disinfectant by placing fluid samples on test strips and verifying results according to procedure. Keeps up maintenance log book for equipment/endoscopes.

Troubleshoots problems with endoscopes and equipment; inspects quality of scopes used in procedures; checks scopes for leaks by submerging and inspecting for air bubbles. Prepares equipment/endoscopes to be sent for repair; contacts vendors or other services to schedule repairs.

Assists in the preparation of procedure rooms. Gathers necessary supplies for endoscopy procedures; identifies procedure to be performed and picks supplies according to checklist. Transports medications which are not controlled substances.

Collaborates with peers to determine supplies/equipment priorities and inventory needs.

Assists in the positioning, moving, and transporting of patients.

Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures. Respects dignity and confidentiality of patient. Promotes a positive working relationship with all support service departments.

III. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

The interpersonal skills necessary to meet the public and work effectively with other members of the health care team.

The verbal and written English language skills necessary to clearly and effectively communicate information and maintain log books.

The ability to achieve and maintain the annual competencies required for handling endoscopy equipment.

The mechanical skills necessary to maintain disinfector and multiple filter system.

IV. KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE/REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Current CPR certification

Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.
