Job Description

STV is looking for a Structural Engineering Specialist to join our highly skilled Rail Team in our Chicago office. The ideal candidate should have some exposure to and interest in the inspection, design and construction of rail, track, and culverts. You will have the opportunity to work under the direction of experienced engineers learning design fundamentals and analysis of existing rail infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
Participate in a variety of planning, design, and construction projects.
Perform field inspections.
Assist in developing technical design reports, calculations, and memos.
Use software to design structural elements such as bridges and retaining walls.
Develop construction documents, including technical drawings and specifications.
Participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders and develop content for these meetings.

Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering
A basic understanding of structural engineering fundamentals
Familiarity with civil and structural design software
A strong desire to work with and help clients, public stakeholders, and fellow team members
Excellent written and oral communication skills
A desire to work on large multidisciplinary rail projects with fast-paced schedules, which require creative thinking and innovative problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license

Other positive attributes:
An engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred but not required
Experience using MicroStation, OpenRail, OpenRoads, and/or AutoCAD Civil3D
Construction site experience
Previous experience with freight and passenger railroad design and engineering

Compensation Range:$58,475.00 - $77,966.00
