POSITION TITLE: Janitor
LOCATION/DEPT: Harbor Light
REPORTS TO: Community Center Director

DEPARTMENT MISSION
To provide leadership using policies, procedures, and available systems to support the Harbor Light Center in meeting the mission of The Salvation Army

PROGRAM/CLIENT ENVIRONMENT
The backgrounds of the clients served by The Harbor Light Program will manifest a variety of inappropriate behaviors. When this occurs, employees are to respond within the context of the treatment environment of the site. Employee conduct (actions, dress, etc) and interactions (conversations, written communications, etc.) with clients must also be within the treatment environment of the facility.
OUTCOMES
Complete housekeeping duties of the Community Center to ensure a clean, healthy and safe working facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interior and exterior areas of the Harbor Light Community Center are kept at a high level of cleanliness, including parking lots.
Chapel, Gym, Warming Kitchen, Pantry Floor, Classrooms, Offices, windows, and washrooms are cleaned. A cleaning log is completed.
Assistance is given in emergency clean-up and set up/tear down for special events when required.
Snow is removed by request when needed.
All other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Community Center Director.
In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Prior experience with various housekeeping duties, supplies and materials preferred.
COMPETENCIES
Ability to follow instructions accurately.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
An attention to detail.
Must be able to work well with others as well as independently.
A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible with changing job situations/priorities.
Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
POSITION LIMITATIONS
This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
This individual will keep the Housekeeping Supervisor informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMAND AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light to heavy physical work.
In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard housekeeping equipment.
Must be able to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 100+lbs.
The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low to high noise level.
Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
