Job Summary:
This Research Study Assistant position is in the Mental Health Services and Policy Program (MHSPP) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (PBS) in the Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM) at Northwestern University (NU). MHSPP's mission is to improve the lives of children and families that receive publicly funded mental health services by providing research, evaluation, and technical assistance. MHSPP faculty and staff include psychologists, health services researchers, social workers, database administrators, and data analysts. This Research Study Assistant position will provide technical assistance to the Illinois Department of Children and
Family Services (IL-DCFS) as part of a contract for service between NU/MHSPP and IL-DCFS. Specifically, this position will perform social-behavioral research, program evaluation and provide implementation support for ILDCFS quality improvement initiatives by administering focus groups, interviews, and surveys following protocols; collecting, compiling, tabulating &/or processing responses; gathering information from existing published literature and other documents; &/or assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports. This Research
Study Assistant position will assist with scheduling meetings and other research office management activities. All activities will be completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all relevant current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Note: This position is a hybrid position and in-office time is expected
Specific Responsibilities:
Technical
Recruits study participants.
Reviews & obtains informed consent.
Schedules study visits with participants.
Conducts interviews.
Scores test results.
Collects survey data.
Reviews medical records.
Consults with nurses & physicians to determine pretreatment & eligibility
requirements of protocol from completion to registration of participants.
Facilitates communication with key personnel & participants to maintain project
study flow.
Administration
Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing basic charts & graphs.
Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
Completes portions of grant applications &/or documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols.
Finance
May process reimbursements for travel expenses.
Monitors & distribute petty cash.
Processes invoices &/or purchase requisitions.
Coordinates fund distribution among multiple sponsors and clinical sites.
Supervision
May train other research staff to interview/test participants.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Good communication skills.
Basic competency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
Bachelor's degree or appropriate combination of education and experience.
1 year experience as a research assistant or other relevant educational or work experience.

Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong skills using the Microsoft Office suite of products.
