Job Summary
Under administrative direction, prepare financial statements and help respond to related audit inquiries. Provide special analysis for management and monitor the integrity of University-wide financial system data. Provide accounting assistance in real property accounting, plant fund administration, and lease accounting.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial reports required by University bond indentures.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual University-wide financial statements and related supporting schedules.
- Assist with preparation and analysis of University-wide data and prepare reports for upper management on a monthly basis or upon request.
- Assist with resolution of University-wide financial audit inquiries and issues to ensure the completion of the annual financial audits by the external auditors in a timely manner.
- Provide analysis of transactional data to ensure integrity of University-wide financial data systems. Advise units of inappropriate or inconsistent transactions.
- Monitor plant fund activity and assist in the maintenance of real property records in the Banner Fixed Asset module.
- Assist UAFR staff and other units in plant fund maintenance - eliminate overdrafts, resolve posting errors, post adjustments, transfer funds, assign proper capitalization designation to projects, and administer plant fund transactions.
- Assist with review disbursements from plant funds subsequent to year-end to validate year-end accrual calculations are accurate.
- Collaborate with departments (system wide) and property accounting staff on analyses and set up of new leases. Work with the various University units to execute the necessary steps to ensure adherence to lease accounting standards. Serve on University, Campus and/or University Accounting committee/teams as assigned. Perform other related duties as assigned.
1. Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field AND two (2) years of professional-level accounting experience.
OR
Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA).
OR
Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.
2. Demonstrated experience analyzing financial data for, and/or ensuring compliance with regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
1. Experience working with fund accounting systems
2. Governmental Accounting Standards Board standards knowledge
3. Minimum of two years of experience in a financial reporting/financial accounting environment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in querying and analyzing large databases.
- Knowledge of reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and Outlook
- Ability to produce complex financial reports and provide detailed information with accuracy and clarity
- Ability to multi-task and produce accurate, detail-oriented work to meet stringent deadlines
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5000 - Accounting Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The budgeted salary range for the position is $55,000 to $62,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. System Office jobs such as this one are not eligible for the Referral Program.
