Job Description
The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Public Safety Supervisor to join our dynamic team on Chicago's Museum Campus. This individual will also supervise, train, and coach the Public Safety Representatives to maintain the safety and security of employees, visitors, and Adler property. The Public Safety Team is responsible for monitoring the building and grounds by patrolling entry points, corridors, galleries, the cafeteria, and other areas. They lead in responding to immediate security calls and alarms, as well as the presence of suspicious individuals and activities, unattended packages, and other situations requiring additional assistance or authority. The Public Safety Supervisor collaborates with Guest Services, Special Events, Exhibits, and Operations staff members to ensure effective supervision and facility support for activities that impact the Adler.
- Provide supervision to the Public Safety Representatives. Create daily rosters, manage daily assignment of rounds, and ensure timely transition of posts. Oversee reporting and review checklists to ensure proper procedures and protocols are followed. Provide appropriate training to support staff where needed for new and existing staff.
- Communication - Facilitate regular security meetings with contracted security and Adler public safety staff. Provides details on any internal or external events as needed. Alerts staff of any high-priority situations or security alerts as they are reported. Uses sound judgment to escalate and communicate concerns as needed. Effectively communicate Adler policies and procedures to guests, staff, and Public Safety Representatives and ensure compliance by all persons on Adler property.
- Assist and support the Public Safety Manager in creating and distributing work schedules, reviewing and approving timecards on a bi-weekly basis, reviewing applications, participating in the interview process for public safety job openings, attending daily operational meetings, all staff meetings, training courses, and museum campus event meetings, etc. Perform other administrative duties where necessary.
