Job Description/Responsibilities

We are seeking a passionate and motivated candidate for the role of Research Fellow at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Center for STEM Research, Education, and Outreach. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the development and implementation of the STEM Center's research program, contributing to grant proposal writing, design and implementation of research, creation of evidence-based education programming, and dissemination of our work to diverse groups of stakeholders in STEM education.

What You'll Do:
  • Develop grant proposals for small and large grants for projects that enhance inclusive excellence in STEM education to a variety of funders, including private foundations and federal agencies such as the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Health, and US Department of Agriculture
  • Design and lead STEM education research, ensuring efficient management of the research process, rigorous adherence to scientific quality and ethical standards, and timely dissemination of findings to diverse audiences in academia and beyond.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise master's level graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Publish peer-reviewed STEM education research findings and attend national and international conferences to share knowledge and network with potential collaborators.
  • Conduct internal evaluation of education programs and analysis of participant feedback data to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness.
  • Assist with the implementation and management of evidence-based STEM education programming for a variety of ages, topics, and educational contexts.
  • Assist with the development of evidence-based STEM curricula and educational programs for a variety of ages, topics, and educational contexts.
  • Assist with creating and implementing professional development opportunities for educators aimed at improving STEM instruction and enhancing student outcomes.

Who You Are:
  • Experienced in both quantitative and qualitative research methods on human subjects.
  • Able to work independently and manage projects from concept through implementation and assessment.
  • Clear communicator and strong writer.
  • Able to work collaboratively with the STEM Center team and diverse external partners.
  • Adept balancing multiple projects and changes in workflow while remaining attentive to deadlines
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about multiple areas of STEM.
  • Familiar with national K-12 education standards such as the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Skilled at maintaining strong relationships and with diverse teams and groups, including external stakeholders, community members, university faculty and administrators, graduate and undergraduate students, and K-12 teachers and informal educators.
  • Committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the workplace, and striving to further these goals in STEM education through our programming and scholarship.
  • Proficient in using technology to achieve research and program goals including all Microsoft Office programs, Microsoft Teams, and data analysis software such as R, ATLAS.ai, or NVIVO.
  • Excellent organizational skills,
