Job Description
WTTW/Chicago PBS and WFMT/Chicago Classical are seeking a Maintenance Engineer. This individual will be responsible for conceptual design, installation, repair, updates, and maintenance of broadcast and production equipment. This includes equipment and systems related to information technology, editing, production, audio and video switchers, router control, networking, servers, transmission, and field equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work as part of the Engineering Department to implement new technologies and technical infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and design IP-based technology and systems related to broadcast operations.
- Work side-by-side with staff on a variety of broadcast and production applications, ensuring proper configuration and operational excellence.
- Maintain and configure camera virtual reality systems (e.g., Ross Acid), including rail cam and Cambotics systems with SmartShell application.
- Provide Engineering, News, and Production with highly responsive, high-quality technical support services.
- Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot news and production systems including Avid, Telestream, editing workstations, Ross, Grass Valley, Multiviewers, and Xpression Graphics.
- Learn backend and user-side operations of all systems to best support them.
- Plan, configure, set up, and test new systems and/or equipment, working closely with staff, vendors, and integration companies.
- Document projects using AutoCAD, including updating as-builts and creating cable labels and necessary project documentation.
- Work closely with the IT Department to ensure proper business and technical LAN integration.
- Collaborate daily with the overall team and contribute enthusiasm and a sense of urgency to accomplish goals.
- Perform other union contract-compliant duties as assigned.
