AI Portfolio Manager

at Jenner & Block LLP in Chicago, Illinois, United States

Job Description

OVERVIEW

The AI Manager plays a central role in executing the firm’s AI strategy by managing the design, implementation, and rollout of solutions aligned with approved use cases. This individual plays a strategic role in advancing the firm’s AI initiatives, leading cross-functional efforts to build custom tools, integrate off-the-shelf technologies, and collaborate with trusted partners—delivering AI solutions that drive operational efficiency for both lawyers and professional staff.

Candidates with experience deploying or managing products powered by large language models (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and familiarity with cloud-native platforms such as Microsoft Azure will bring critical expertise to this role, ensuring scalable, secure, and production-ready solutions.

The role is ideally based in a city with a Jenner & Block office (Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or London).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with firm leadership to shape and execute the firm’s AI and innovation strategy, prioritizing high-impact opportunities across legal and business functions
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of AI solutions—whether built in-house, bought commercially, or developed through vendor partnerships—including use case refinement, solution design, testing, security, training, launch, and adoption
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners (e.g., AI consultants, technology vendors) to ensure solutions are practical, secure, scalable (especially within Microsoft Azure), and aligned with business needs
  • Promote firmwide understanding and adoption of AI tools by facilitating discovery sessions, training programs, and change management initiatives
  • Monitor project progress and impact through centralized tracking systems and regularly evaluate emerging AI technologies (particularly LLM-powered tools such as OpenAI or Anthropic) for integration into the firm’s roadmap
  • Oversee vendor relationships and coordinate licensing and contract activities in partnership with Procurement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing AI or technology projects, ideally in a legal or professional services setting
  • Strong ability to translate business needs into clear technical requirements
  • Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Comfortable leading working sessions and guiding solution design conversations
  • Skilled at generating buy-in across diverse stakeholder base
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically about AI integration challenges
  • Long-term vision, with ability to plan and execute short-term solutions
  • Skilled at communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required. A JD or a Masters in a technical field a plus
