The SIU School of Dental Medicine in Alton, IL seeks full-time qualified Dental Assistant II candidates.
The SIU School of Dental Medicine provides a range of treatments, cutting-edge dental therap i es, and individualized care in a modern and relaxed setting.
What You Will Do
- Mentor and instruct dental assistant students, sharing expertise in the theory and practical aspects of dental assisting
- Offer chairside assistance to dental students, faculty, or residents during procedures
- Document patient medical and dental histories, and examination notes as directed by the dentist, student, or resident
- Maintain the treatment area by preparing, cleaning, and disinfecting before and after each patient's appointment
- Perform comprehensive data entry tasks within the clinical management software system
- Prepare instruments and equipment for sterilization or disposing of them in accordance with the Infection Control/Hazard Control Policy
- Ensure the accuracy of computer logs, documenting completed procedures, cancellations, broken appointments, and other progress forms as needed

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one of the following categories below:
- Six (6 months) of work experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed at the Dental Assistant I level of this series.
- Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting School.
- Current Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assisting National Board, if required by the employing institution.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Knowledge and techniques needed in dental procedures and medicine pertaining to dental assistance (e.g., knowledge of four-handed dentistry).
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Knowledge of computers to input data, access information, and/or create materials and documents using a variety of clinical software applications.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
