Job Title:  Mortgage Loan Originator

Work Location:  Sycamore, Illinois

Department:  Loan Department

Reports to:  Sr. Vice President

Full-Time; Salaried, Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

The Mortgage Loan Originator is to originate permanent residential mortgage loans and to participate in activities to increase the bank's share of the local mortgage market.  Will play a crucial role in guiding potential borrowers through the mortgage application process, from inital inquiry to closing.

This position is not a remote position, nor does it have the option of being a hybrid position.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday and Saturdays as scheduled.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Develops contacts with local realtors, developers, and builders to encourage use of bank services for residential mortgages.
  • Help potential borrowers choose the right mortgage product that aligns with their needs.  Assess financial information, negotiate rates, and guide applicants through the application process.
  • Interviews applicants to discuss their mortgage requirements and ascertain their capacity to repay and assess the degree of risk involved.  
  • Work closely with underwriting management teams to ensure that mortgage loans adhere to guidelines set by entities such as portfolio lenders, and private investors.
  • Reviews loan applications, obtains applicants' credit history, and verifies finanial information supplied.
  • Monitor loan portfolios to identify risks accurately and maintain asset quality.  Staying current with the banks' underwirting policy is essential.  
  • Advise applicants of options available to them, explains the differences between all types of mortgages and negotiate terms and conditions of loan.
  • Collect all necessary documentation (such as income tax returns, bank account details, purchase agreements, and propery descriptions) for verification. Effective communication with internal and external customers is crucial.  
  • Keep up to date with conditions in the local real estate market and with changes in rules and regulations pertaining to both private and government-insured mortgages.
  • Actively develop referrals from various sources, including agents, attorneys and CPA's.  
  • Make sales calls to potential and existing customers to retain current businesses and to develop new loans.
  • Assist in all activities in the department and other duties and/or special projects as assigned by management.  Will have extensive contact with customers and the public and is to conduct relationsphis in a manner that will enhance the overall marketing effort of the bank.
  • May be called upon from time to time to participate with community organizations relations and community projects.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of underwriting criteria and guidelines.  
  • Computer proficiency, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal).
  • Ability to provide customers with courteous friendly service.
  • Requires a mature, professional person with an outgoing personality, and the ability to conduct themselves with tact, courtesy, and have a genuine desire to serve others.  
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and produce results, while paying attention to detail and accuracy in handling various negotiable instruments.
  • Detail orientated with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-sovling skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as a team member.  
  • Ardent desire to excel in a competitive environment.
  • Self-Starter with the ability to make sound decisions based upon departmental and bank policies, procedures, knowledge, and experience.
  • Represent and promote the bank and its various banking products.
  • A thorough knowledge of forms and proper use of them in processing the various transactions is essential (training will be provided).

Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of 12 months of loan orginator experience is typically required wth proven mortgage production:  FHA, VA, FHLMC local bonding programs, and private investors. 
  • Familiarity with local, state and national laws related to mortgages. 
  • Previous success in customer service-orientated role.
  • A bachelor's degree or associate degree in fields such as Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or Government.
  • NMLS Certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other Federal, State, and Local standards, including meeting  qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance, consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other Federal, State and Local standards.
  • Prolonges periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use computers, read, write, type, use office equipment, file paperwork, use telephones, and utlize written and oral communication to interact with customers and co-workers.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilitis to perform the essential functions of this job. 

Pay:   $37,000 - $71,535/Annual Base Salary plus Commission
