The Department of Plant Biology is searching for a Visiting Research Scientist that studies stomata and water use efficiency and will be involved in the H20-C Department of Energy project that is engineering crops to be more productive with fewer resources.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Phenotyping traits related to stomata and water use efficiency
- Independently perform data analysis of microscopy and omics-related data sets and interpretation to uncover insights into stomatal biology and regulatory mechanisms
- Independently design and execute experiments to investigate stomatal development, structure, and function
- Presentation of data via conference presentations and manuscript preparation
- PhD in the biological field. Experience with phenotyping of plant physiology and growth in C4 grasses.
- Experience with large data sets and image analysis.
- Experience with phenotyping C4 plants.
- Demonstrated expertise in X-ray CT microscopy.
- Familiarity with graphic design.
- Experience with supervision of staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others

- Ability to multitask in order to meet stringent deadlines while producing accurate work
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $53,000 - $58,500. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University of Illinois workplace flexibility guidelines- https://cam.illinois.edu/policies/hr-87-2/. Sponsorship for Work Authorization is not available for this position.
