English Language Acquisition (ESL) classes that range from Low Beginning to Advanced. Classes are designed to assist students in developing the English Language skills necessary to achieve their social and professional needs. Instructors will provide educational activities within the scope of a developed curriculum that assists students in achieving their goals. The use of multiple teaching strategies to serve the diverse needs of adult learners is expected.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for delivering curriculum, providing instruction, and performing student learning assessment. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively use instructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning. Courses at Waubonsee Community College may be offered in various delivery modes, however Waubonsee does not accept applications for fully remote instructors.

Areas of responsibility include:

Deliver instruction to English language learners in all language skill areas, incorporating digital literacy and back numeracy.

Completion of program documentation per grant requirements.

Completion of New Hire Orientation and attendance at faculty meetings.

Prepare lessons and syllabus based on approved curriculum and syllabus template.

Ensure student enrollment, attendance, and grades are submitted in a timely manner.

Work with Transition Advisors to insure student persistence and transition.

Fulfill State mandated 12 hours of Adult Education Professional Development per fiscal year.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education, English, foreign language or related field required.

Excellent communication and pronunciation skills.

Basic computer skills.

Preferred Experience

Master's degree in Education, English or related discipline preferred.

Minimum two years teaching experience preferred.

TESOL Certification, ICCB Adult Education Standards Certification, or STAR (Reading Specialist) training.

Teaching at a Community College or Vocational/Technical institution.

Teaching traditionally underserved populations.

Incorporating technology and multimedia applications into teaching and learning process.

Teaching in multiple instructional modalities.

Utilizing Learning Management Systems.

Understanding of Canvas, DAISI, Burlington English, IXL, or CASAS Academy a plus.
