Job Description
Basis Global Technologies, Inc. seeks a Data Scientist in Chicago, IL.
Duties:
- Applying machine learning and/or statistical approaches to solve a problem as needed. Analyze results from a statistical experiment or a machine learning process and present the findings to a non-technical audience in a way that is comprehensible by the audience.
- Identifying relevant data sources and outline the steps needed to solve a problem. Work with the stakeholders in creating appropriate metrics to measure the outcomes of an experiment.
- Inquisitively interview business stakeholders to understand the end goals. Understand business problems and nuances of the data before formulating solutions.
- Possessing natural curiosity to explore the data and write complex queries to understand the relationships among data entities.
- Writing efficient and reusable code to process large amounts of data and perform data wrangling tasks in cloud environment
- Writing complex queries in relational databases and Big Data clusters
- Understanding the business logic behind the data structure and nuances of the data
- Understanding the relationships among disparate data sources
- Understanding the pros and cons of various statistical methods and use them where appropriate
- Being aware of the assumptions in statistical software packages
- Understanding the input parameters and know how to tweak them for better performance
- Understanding behind-the-scenes steps of Machine Learning algorithms and do not treat them as black boxes
- Being able to know pros and cons of different ML practices
- Selecting the most appropriate algorithm for a given task and explain why a particular algorithm is better than others to solve the problem
- Analyzing results from a statistical experiment or a machine learning algorithm and tell the story to other teams within the product and technology organization (e.g. product managers, software engineers, QA)
- Creating data visualizations to tell the story from the data
- Understanding what types of visualizations are appropriate for the audience
- Collaborating with other teams to set up environments needed for the data science team
- Communicating effectively on what is needed and brainstorm with them to explore the best solution for a given problem
- Possessing business savviness and understand the business problem before formulating the solutions
- Identifying which data is relevant to solve the problem and propose solutions
- Acknowledging and embracing diversity of thought and opinion, and approach with Beeps, clients and vendors, regardless of background, culture, and organizational level. Specific examples include, but are not limited to:

Telecommuting is permitted.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Math, or related field plus 4 years of experience.
Requires 3 years of experience with:
- Statistical Analysis
- Business Acumen
- Data Wrangling
- Machine Learning
- Data Extraction
