Job Summary
Norman Filter Company is a quality manufacturer of hydraulic filter housings, elements, and filtration systems. The Manufacturing Engineer – Welding, will have a deep understanding of AWS D17.1 standards and a proven track record of driving process improvements in a production environment. This role is critical to ensuring weld quality, compliance, and efficiency across our operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Although there are no supervisory requirements for this position, the Manufacturing Engineer - Welding is expected to serve as a role model for others within the group
Duties / Responsibilities
- Develop, qualify, and optimize welding processes in accordance with AWS D17.1 and other applicable standards.
- Create and maintain welding documentation, including weld schedules, procedures (WPS/PQR), and inspection criteria.
- Provide technical support and training to welders and production teams to ensure consistent weld quality.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for weld-related defects and other process inefficiencies.
- Provide support and engineering, as required, for additional company priorities outside welding
- Lead efforts in weld automation, tooling design, and fixture development to enhance productivity and repeatability.
- Support audits and customer reviews by providing documentation and technical expertise related to welding processes.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in welding engineering
Required Skills / Abilities
- Strong knowledge of AWS D17.1 and other relevant welding codes and standards.
- Experience with aerospace or high-precision welding applications is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld symbols.
- Basic mechanical engineering design skills including: statics and dynamics, strength of materials and solid mechanics, fluid mechanics and hydraulics
- Familiarity with quality system tasks such as: internal auditing, corrective actions, non-conforming material dispositions, continuous improvement, etc.
- Mechanically inclined
- Familiarity with NDT/NDE methods, processes, and procedures
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience
- Certification as a CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or CWE (Certified Welding Educator) is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Lift / manipulate up to 50lbs
- Ability to sit or stand for 8 hours
