Job Description
LEAD, SECONDARY OPERATIONS Des Plaines, IL KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Coordinates the daily activities of the secondary operations team including assigning workstations and tasks to team members considering the daily production and packaging requirements and individual capabilities.
- Trains newly hired, transferred, or promoted Operators and/or Material Handlers on Secondary Operations processes, equipment operation, and safety procedures and provides ongoing training to existing employees to enhance their skills.
- Operates as a backup to the Secondary Operations Supervisor including providing direct feedback to employees on individual performance/policy adherence and notifying management as appropriate of any.
- Operates material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks to efficiently move inventory within the warehouse and production areas including moving product to production workstations or relocating inventory within the warehouse in accordance with work instructions.
- Performs manual assembly, sheeting application, drilling, and packaging duties according to work order specifications and customer service notes using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Operates automated sheeting machines including loading materials, monitoring the machines during operation, and unloading finished parts.
- Packages finished products in accordance with work order specifications.
- Conducts quality checks to ensure the finished products meet the required quality standards.
- Maintains accurate production records, including quality, run start and end times, and finished product counts.
- Adheres to all health and safety protocols and procedures, with additional responsibilities relating to acting as a first responder, coaching others on safety protocols, and forklift safety requirements and procedures.
- Maintains a clean working area and performs housekeeping to maintain/improve department organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIRMENTS:
- 3+ years of related work experience (e.g. in a production setting) including 1+ years of prior forklift experience.
- Must successfully complete the internal certification process to operate forklifts.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work safely, quickly, and with precision.
- Basic math (arithmetic) including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Basic problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong verbal communication skills and written fluency in English.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- 5+ years of production operating experience and 1+ year of experience in a leadership capacity.
- Bilingual - Spanish
- 2nd Shift: 2-10pm
- Pay: $21.50 - $23.00 per hour
- Works in non-climate-controlled production and warehouse operations environment with moderate noise levels, prolonged periods standing/walking (>90% of the shift).
- Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, grab, and climb stairs.
