SUMMARY

The Accountant II handles essential accounting duties for the parent company and its subsidiaries, ensuring accuracy and compliance. This role includes preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for senior management, regulatory agencies, and external auditors. The Accountant II also researches and responds to inquiries from examiners, auditors, and management, and assists in developing reliable information for regulatory and financial reporting requirements.

Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, analytical, and organized, with a solid understanding of accounting principles and proficiency in accounting software. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with senior management, auditors, and regulatory bodies. A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, along with relevant work experience, is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Prepare and record subsidiaries' activities, including cash receipts, journal entries, general ledger transactions, cash disbursements, and reconciliations, along with all necessary reports.
  • Handle and document parent and subsidiaries' activities, such as cash receipts, journal entries, general ledger transactions, cash disbursements, and reconciliations, as well as all required reports.
  • Support the accurate preparation and presentation of financial data for monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory and financial reports.
  • Ensure data entry and recording for various software programs, including general ledger, accounts payable, shareholder accounting, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and regulatory reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of corporate stockholder processing.
  • Maintain specialized accounting software and functions, including shareholder accounting, dividend checks, fixed asset accounting, prepaid expenses, lease accounting, customer deposit systems, and 1099 preparation.
  • Prepare various balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Receive and post entries for checking and dividend accounts, reconcile accounts, and generate various reports.
  • Provide support to other members of the Accounting Department as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual tax information.
  • Review and reconcile bank deposit accounts.
  • Help design and build reporting structures and formats using various software programs.
  • Assist with research and audits as required.
  • Maintain subsidiary schedules that support and reconcile to control accounts or activities.
  • Support investment duties and activities as needed.
  • Assist with the daily funds settlement process.
  • Help with various state and local reporting, including annual reports, unclaimed property, and tax returns.
  • Assist with the budget process.
  • Utilize strong communication skills to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Assume responsibility for special projects and tasks as assigned.

 

 

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, a related field, or a commensurate combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in Accounting or a related field required.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong knowledge of Accounting functions and relevant laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers at all levels.
  • A positive and proactive approach to work, demonstrating enthusiasm, adaptability, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful or adverse conditions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention detail.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to apply sound judgement in decision-making.
  • Ability to accurately and quickly complete standard mathematical calculations, applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret common and specialized financial reports.
  • Proficient computer literacy, including comfort with Microsoft systems and Office Suite.
  • Intermediate typing skills to meet the needs of this position.
  • Current driver’s license and reliable transportation with appropriate insurance coverage; additionally, the ability to drive occasionally in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • The ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
