Target hiring range for this position will be between be  range is as be  $18.42-$23.02 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

Northwestern University Mesulam Institute for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease is offering a one-year postgraduate social work fellowship dedicated to the education and training of social work professionals who are interested in developing a strong knowledge base of dementia disorders, enhancing clinical skills with persons living with neurocognitive disorders and their families, engaging in collaborations with high risk communities and expanding their ability to conduct research.   

We are seeking an exceptional social worker who demonstrates a pronounced interest in working with persons living with neurocognitive disorders and their families as well as an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.  The goal of this fellowship is to provide a solid foundation for social workers who will become leaders in this field. 

The Social Work Fellowship in Neurocognitive Disorders is open to Social Workers with Master’s or Doctoral degrees and falls under the Mesulam Institute for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.  The Fellow will work closely with members of the Social Work Team within the Institute. We will provide the Fellow with ongoing clinical supervision by licensed clinical social workers with extensive expertise working with persons living with dementia and their families. 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Attend and fully participate in Mesulam Institute educational events, including Roundtables, Journal Clubs, and the Alzheimer’s Disease Seminar Series.  Demonstrate integration of the material in clinical work, presentations, community engagement and research. 
  • Participate in psychosocial research programs by providing: 1) Caregiver support group co-facilitation, 2) Organization, communication, and data management and analysis for the Buddy Program pairing first year medical students, persons living with dementia and their families and 3) development and execution of other psychosocial interventions, including didactic presentations, group facilitation, data management and analysis, and communication with participants.
  • Participate in the interdisciplinary healthcare team of the Neurobehavior and Memory Clinic and the Northwestern Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center Clinical Core. Formulate psychosocial assessments and provide education, counseling and linkage to appropriate community services to persons living with dementia and the
