Job Description

The Accounting Manager oversees the financial operations, accounting practices, reporting systems, and internal controls of Bear Down Community Investment Group NFP. This role ensures the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of all financial functions while supporting organizational transparency and sustainability.

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing day‑to‑day accounting processes, supervising accounting staff or contractors, supporting grant and contract management, and providing financial insights that guide leadership decision‑making. This individual plays a critical role in the nonprofit’s ability to execute high‑impact programs and steward community resources responsibly.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

- Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations. 

- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership, the board, and funding partners. 

- Maintain an accurate general ledger and ensure timely month‑end and year‑end closings. 

- Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual reports to support program and organizational decision‑making.

 

Grant & Contract Financial Administration

- Work with program teams to ensure proper tracking of grant expenditures, allocations, and allowable costs. 

- Prepare financial reports required by government agencies, foundations, and other funders. 

- Monitor grant budgets, ensuring compliance with restrictions, timelines, and reporting requirements. 

- Assist with the financial components of grant proposals, including budget development and cost justifications.

 

Internal Controls & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and relevant state and federal regulations. 

- Maintain internal accounting policies and procedures that support strong financial stewardship. 

- Support preparation for annual audits, monitor internal controls, and ensure readiness for funder monitoring visits. 

- Implement improvements to financial systems, processes, and controls as needed.

 

Cash Flow & Budget Oversight

- Monitor cash flow needs and prepare projections for executive leadership. 

- Support the development of the annual organizational budget and program‑specific budgets. 

- Manage vendor relationships, reimbursement schedules, and financial forecasting tools.

 

Team Leadership & Collaboration

- Supervise accounting staff or outsourced bookkeeping/CPA partners. 

- Collaborate with program teams, the Executive Director/CEO, and board finance committees. 

- Provide training or guidance to staff on budget processes, financial compliance, and financial literacy for program leaders. 

- Work cross‑departmentally to ensure financial accuracy across housing, workforce, and small business initiatives.
