Outreach Coordinator

at Legal Aid Chicago (Formerly LAF) in Chicago, Illinois, United States

Job Description

For over 50 years, Legal Aid Chicago has provided free civil legal assistance to people living in poverty in metropolitan Chicago. Each year our attorneys, volunteers, and staff help resolve civil legal problems, including domestic violence, consumer fraud, and unfair evictions. Legal Aid Chicago was founded on the philosophy that all individuals are entitled to quality civil legal representation, regardless of their income. We work to ensure that poverty is not an impediment to justice.

Legal Aid Chicago offers a hybrid work environment. Our office, located in downtown Chicago at 200 N. LaSalle Street, is ADA accessible and has convenient access to public transportation and local expressways. This position may require travel to outreach events.

Our current partnerships include, but are not limited to, community-based organizations, schools, and governmental agencies. The Outreach Coordinator must be comfortable engaging in conversations across the wide array of legal issues that Legal Aid Chicago covers, but we anticipate this role having a focus on criminal records-related outreach. This position reports to an Associate Director.

  • Coordinate and provide presentations about Legal Aid Chicago services to diverse audiences

  • Participate in meetings with community organizations and groups throughout Chicago and Suburban Cook County, with a special focus on the West and Southwest Zones of Chicago, as defined by Chicago’s DFSS
  • Develop outreach materials, including flyers, brochures, and public presentations.
  • Attend trainings and maintain current knowledge on relevant issues
  • Connect Legal Aid Chicago staff with appropriate community organizations and groups, and assist with development of Practice Group-specific relationships
  • Document work and accurate timekeeping in electronic case management system
  • Help Legal Aid Chicago staff develop and implement outreach and community engagement plans
  • Track data related to grants, and assist on related reporting, as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
