Description
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and execution of complex electrical engineering projects across a diverse portfolio of markets, including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.
This role is responsible for leading electrical design efforts from concept through construction, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and innovative solutions that meet client requirements. The Senior Electrical Engineer will collaborate across disciplines, manage project deliverables, and play a key role in client engagement and business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design efforts from conceptual development through final design and construction support.
- Develop project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and construction strategies in coordination with project managers.
- Prepare electrical equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid evaluations, and procurement recommendations.
- Review vendor drawings and coordinate with suppliers, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Apply advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles, codes, and industry standards to develop effective and innovative design solutions.
- Perform and oversee quality reviews of engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications across multiple CAD platforms.
- Provide construction phase support, including resolving field issues, conducting inspections, and verifying system performance through testing and commissioning activities.
- Lead field inspections, data collection, and technical evaluations for both public and private sector clients.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations for clients and industry audiences.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and partners while identifying new business opportunities.
- Support sales and marketing initiatives, including pursuit strategy and opportunity identification.
- Lead development of cost proposals, qualifications packages, and project estimates to meet financial and performance targets.
- Monitor and report project financial and performance metrics.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.
- Promote effective coordination across all engineering disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, project requirements, and site safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education & Experience (one of the following):
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited) and 7+ years of related experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (ABET accredited), successful completion of the FE exam, and 7+ years of experience
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 6+ years of related experience
- Prior experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, design practices, and applicable ANSI and IEEE standards.
- Proven experience leading electrical design efforts on large or complex projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project execution, delegate tasks, and resolve technical challenges in a collaborative environment.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and attention-to-detail capabilities.
- Ability to perform in-depth quality reviews of technical documents and designs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with standard engineering software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Compensation
$150,000 – $230,000 annually
The final compensation offered will be based on factors such as education, experience, qualifications, and geographic location. This role is also eligible for participation in Burns & McDonnell’s discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
