Job Description

AL AIR INC seeks an HVAC Systems Engineer in Norridge, Cook County, Illinois.

Duties:

Design, develop, and optimize HVAC systems for commercial and residential facilities, including rooftop units, furnaces, boilers, split systems, and packaged equipment.

Perform comprehensive engineering calculations to determine heating and cooling loads based on building envelope characteristics, occupancy, and climate conditions, utilizing ACCA Manual J and ASHRAE-based methods.

Calculate air distribution system parameters, including duct sizing, friction loss, pressure drop, and static pressure balance to ensure optimal airflow and energy efficiency.

Use AutoCAD and Revit to develop detailed HVAC system drawings, duct layouts, and equipment schedules in coordination with architectural and structural plans.

Conduct system modeling using HAP or similar tools. Specify appropriate HVAC equipment based on technical and energy code compliance, including ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC, and building performance targets.

Prepare technical documentation and BOMs for internal team and subcontractors. Coordinate designs with construction teams and project stakeholders.

Conduct site visits to perform field measurements, assess existing equipment and ductwork, and provide on-site technical support during installation.

Verify conformance of installed systems with approved plans and resolve field conflicts as needed.

Oversee functional testing and system commissioning. Review Test & Balance reports, verify airflows, and adjust control sequences to optimize comfort and performance.

Maintain accurate records of project files, technical revisions, and as-built documentation.

Apply knowledge of IMC, IBC, IECC, ASHRAE, and local mechanical/plumbing codes.

The employee will regularly start from the employer’s Norridge office and will travel locally to residential and commercial HVAC job sites within Cook County, Illinois. No overnight travel required.
