Department Overview: Counseling and Psychology Services (CAPS) is a unit within the Division of Student Affairs at Northwestern University (NU) and is highly utilized by students and other campus community members seeking consultation. CAPS has offices on both the Evanston and Chicago campuses. NU has a total student population of approximately 21,000 students across both campuses, with approximately 18,500 of these students attending classes in the Evanston campus. The Chicago office primarily serves graduate and professional students while Evanston office serves both undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to our clinical services, CAPS reaches over 10,000 NU community members through outreach and educational programming on both campuses. CAPS also has a training program, including an APA‐accredited Doctoral Internship in Psychology and a Post‐Doctoral Fellowship. CAPS is a learning organization, in that our strategic planning, priority setting, clinical services, and professional development are informed by local data collection as well as benchmarking with national trends and peer institutions. Job Duties: Conduct intake assessments and provide short-term therapy in individual and group settings with a specific focus on LGBTQ, Mandarin speaking, and other multi-lingual and international students; perform substance abuse and eating disorder assessment and treatment; perform empirically supportive treatment for anxiety, depression, and perfectionism; Provide psychological assessments, intakes, crisis intervention and management, triage, daytime walk-in emergency service and assume after hours on call responsibilities for daytime and evening emergency services. Consult with parents, physicians, faculty, academic deans, residence life staff and off-campus counseling services. Participate in clinical supervision and training experiences for doctoral trainees. Conduct case management and consultation for trainees. Consult with Psychiatrists in conjunction with prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medication for psychotherapy patients. Develop and implement outreach preventative programs and providing programs to students who may have English as a second language.

Pay Range: The salary range for the Staff Therapist position is $92,000-94,760 depending on experience, skills, and internal equity.

Requirements:

  • MS in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field of study
  • Six months of experience as a Postdoctoral Staff Therapist or Counselor in a university setting.
  • Must be able to provide clinical services in Mandarin.

Prior experience must include experience providing therapy in individual and group settings; participating in clinical supervision and training experiences for doctoral trainees; develop and implement outreach preventative programs and providing programs to students who may have English as a Second Language; working with LGBTQ, and international students; performing substance abuse and eating disorder assessment and treatment;
