Purchaser

at ANNING JOHNSON in Melrose Park, Illinois, United States

Job Description

Description

Purchaser - Construction
Build something that matters, starting with how projects come together.
At Anning-Johnson / Anson Industries, our work doesn't happen without the right materials, at the right time, in the right place. That's where you come in.
We're looking for a Purchaser who thrives in a fast-moving environment and takes ownership of getting things done. This role sits at the center of our operations-partnering with project teams, working directly with vendors, and making sure everything needed to execute the job is lined up and delivered.
If you're someone who likes solving problems, staying organized, and being a key part of the team behind the scenes, this is a role where you'll make a real impact every day.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll own the purchasing process from start to finish-making sure our jobs have what they need, when they need it.
Source and secure materials and equipment for active construction projects
Build and manage vendor relationships-negotiating pricing, timelines, and terms
Create and manage purchase orders with accuracy and urgency
Track inventory and stay ahead of material needs
Coordinate deliveries to job sites and keep projects moving
Keep documentation tight-shipping, receiving, and inventory records
Partner closely with project teams to align on schedules and priorities
Troubleshoot issues quickly-whether it's a delay, shortage, or vendor concern

What You Bring
10+ years of purchasing experience, ideally in construction or a related field
Experience working in an ERP system (COINS strongly preferred)
Strong instincts for organization, follow-through, and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities without losing momentum
Confidence working with vendors and negotiating effectively
Familiarity with inventory and material tracking processes
Comfortable using Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Ability to read construction drawings is a plus
Strong communication skills; Spanish is a plus

Why This Role
You'll be a critical part of project execution, not just behind the scenes
You'll work with experienced teams that value responsiveness and accountability
You'll have the opportunity to grow and make an immediate impact
Salary range is $68,000 to $92,000 (based on education and experience) with generous bonus!
You'll join an employee-owned company with long-term stability and strong culture
Annual Profit Sharing
Comprehensive Benefits Package:
Paid Time Off (PTO)
Medical, Dental, Vision & Prescription Drug Coverage
Company-Funded Life Insurance
Short- and Long-Term Disability
Additional voluntary benefits
