Job Title: Batch Mixer
Job Description
This role focuses on safely formulating and mixing chemical batches by following detailed batch sheets and standard operating procedures. You will handle both liquid and powdered raw materials, operate production equipment such as reactors, pumps, mixers, and milling machines, and maintain accurate production records. The position involves working in a modern, temperature-controlled manufacturing environment on either first or third shift, with full training provided to help you progress from general labor tasks into a fully skilled batch mixer and chemical operator.
Responsibilities
+ Attend daily safety meetings and follow all established safety protocols at all times.
+ Receive batch sheets and review them carefully to understand production requirements and sequencing.
+ Formulate chemical batches by weighing and measuring raw materials according to batch specifications.
+ Handle liquid and powdered raw materials from drums, totes, and bags in a safe and controlled manner.
+ Pour and place raw materials into reactors and other processing vessels following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
+ Check gauges, controls, and instrumentation regularly to ensure equipment operates within specified parameters.
+ Monitor running machinery, including pumps, mixers, and milling machines, and make necessary adjustments to maintain product quality.
+ Follow all SOPs for mixing, blending, and chemical operations to ensure consistency and compliance.
+ Keep detailed and accurate records of batch formulations, production steps, and any deviations or issues.
+ Work with batches up to 4,000 gallons, ensuring proper mixing, timing, and documentation for each batch.
+ Identify any equipment or process issues quickly and notify maintenance immediately to minimize downtime.
+ Perform housekeeping duties while machines are running or when batches are complete, including sweeping, cleaning, and maintaining a tidy work area.
+ Communicate batch records, production status, and any issues to the next shift and supervisors to ensure smooth handoffs.
+ Work side by side with a helper, providing guidance so they understand basic job duties, safety expectations, and proper procedures.
+ Start by performing general labor tasks to become acclimated to the operation and progressively take on full formulating and batch mixing responsibilities.
+ Support packaging, staging, and preparing orders as needed to meet production and shipping schedules.
+ Collaborate with supervisors and follow their direction during training and ongoing operations to continuously improve performance and safety.
Essential Skills
+ At least 3 years of manufacturing experience in a production environment.
+ At least 3 years of experience in blending, formulating, chemical operating, or batch mixing.
+ Hands-on experience working with chemical or pharmaceutical products, preferred over food manufacturing.
+ Ability to accurately weigh and measure raw materials and follow detailed batch instructions.
+ Capability to operate production equipment such as reactors, pumps, mixers, and milling machines.
+ Strong attention to detail for recordkeeping, documentation, and adherence to SOPs.
+ Comfort working with both liquid and powdered materials in drums, totes, and bags.
+ Willingness to follow strict safety procedures and participate actively in daily safety meetings.
+ Effective communication skills to coordinate with helpers, supervisors, and other shifts.
+ Flexibility to assist with packaging, staging, and order preparation as production needs require.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, preferred over food production.
+ Familiarity with large-batch operations, including batches up to 4,000 gallons.
+ Previous experience monitoring gauges, controls, and process equipment for continuous production.
+ Background in environments with strong safety cultures and structured SOPs.
+ Ability to work effectively in either smaller teams or larger, high-volume production settings.
+ Openness to comprehensive on-the-job training provided by supervisors to grow into full batch mixing responsibilities.
Why Work Here?
You will join a safety-focused organization that invests in modern, temperature-controlled facilities and provides excellent employee benefits. The work environment emphasizes organization, cleanliness, and structured processes, offering both smaller, close-knit teams and larger, high-volume operations depending on location. You can expect thorough training, opportunities to expand your skills in chemical manufacturing, and a stable operation that handles end-to-end production from manufacturing through bottling, staging, and shipping.
Work Environment
The role is based in clean, temperature-controlled chemical manufacturing facilities. One site features a modern, recently remodeled plant with a smaller workforce, typically 10-15 people on first shift and about half that on second shift, with fewer lines, kettles, fillers, and blenders, and a highly organized layout. Another site is larger, also temperature controlled, with a bigger workforce and many more production lines, which can create a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment due to high production volumes. Operations at both locations involve manufacturing products, bottling them, staging them, and shipping them out, with one facility handling more customized orders and pallets and the other focusing on continuous batches and repetitive client orders. The chemicals handled at both sites are not harmful, and safety is a major focus throughout the operation. There are security checkpoints at the larger facility and multiple break rooms available for employees. Shifts include a first shift from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and a third shift from 11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights, with additional second shift operations at some locations. Dress expectations align with a chemical manufacturing environment, including appropriate personal protective equipment as required for handling liquids, powders, and operating machinery.
