Job Description
Staff Electrical Test Engineers with Rivian Automotive, LLC in Normal, IL. Lead the full lifecycle of Drive Unit test equipment activities including development, commissioning, qualification, and integration. Coordinate and track the launch of new programs and products by developing production-level test procedures in collaboration with manufacturing and product engineering. Participate in product reviews to evaluate process impacts, providing feedback on test sequences, equipment capabilities, and investment requirements while translating Voice of the Customer and product requirements into executable manufacturing test specifications. Serve as technical liaison between manufacturing and product engineering to assess design changes and determine best practice process approaches for material, tooling, equipment, and labor across all electrical test systems. Review, interpret, and summarize end-of-line statistical data to drive continuous improvement and define test limits. Drive Overall Equipment Effectiveness improvements by reducing cycle times, optimizing test sequences, and minimizing false failures. Identify and implement solutions for issues relating to safety, quality, productivity, and cost reductions. Standardize test methods across multiple drive unit manufacturing lines. Investigate electrical issues and failure modes by applying technical root cause analysis and utilizing Red X, 8D, or 5-Why methodologies. Implement containment solutions by reviewing product design, upstream processes, and testing procedures, and analyze warranty claims and field data to update end-of-line test limits. Oversee mechanical teardowns of rejected units to correlate test failures with physical defects. Support hardware integration related to interfacing hardware and connection issues. Configure and optimize mechanical test subsystems. Analyze electromechanical test traces to identify defects. Develop work instructions, standardized work, process flows, and documentation to ensure the testing process is repeatable and efficient. Provide technical guidance to repair technicians and develop best practice rework procedures based on failure analysis. Attend start-of-shift and daily meetings to track production priorities, support production ramp-up, and follow up on outstanding issues.
RQMTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechatronic Engineering or a closely related field and 5 years of experience in any occupation involving electrical test engineering in the automotive industry. Experience must include: High Voltage Dyno testing for automotive powertrain systems; Testing Drive Unit, Gearboxes and/or EV battery systems; Commissioning test equipment and production ramp-up support; Working with lab instruments including DMM, Oscilloscope, debugger, HIL operation; CAD interpretation and GD&T principles; Kaizen, 5S, Lean Six Sigma; Using statistical tools, DOEs, and Minitab; Working with DFSS/DRM tools including VOC, FMEA, 5-Why, Red X and/or 8-D.Salary Range: $126,000-$189,000/yr.
