Job Description

Sr. Manufacturing Engineers with Rivian Automotive, LLC in Normal, IL. Design automated production lines for product flow, ergonomics and efficiency, scalability, standardization, and continuous quality monitoring. Design, procurement, construction, simulation and deployment of manufacturing drive unit equipment for low, medium, and high volume production. Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment. Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor. Develop cost-effective test solutions in conjunction with drive unit integrator for internal motor and gearbox drive unit; including but not limited to pallet and skid design, drive unit sizing and design, buffering and sequencing strategy, sizing simulation, traceability, fully automated cycle development, and drive unit debug, validation and bring up. Conduct clear evaluation of execution risk and appropriate mitigation path establishment and ownership. Provide Capex and sub supplier with a strategy for optimized spare parts crib population and equipment maintenance; unify components for drive unit. Evaluation of elimination of direct headcount and Ops staffing requirements. Interface with Materials Handling, Production Control, Ops, Packaging, and ME teams to ensure best engineering practices are applied. Develop technical expertise redundancy in drive unit capability across team. Domestic and international travel is required approximately 20% of the time.

RQMTS: Minimum 4 years of experience in any occupation as a manufacturing engineer in an automated manufacturing environment. Experience must include working with using 2D and 3D CAD software AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or Catia for manufacturing layout and fixture/mechanical system design; performing Measurement System Analysis and using statistical software Minitab and/or JMP for design of experiments, statistical process control, and process capability studies Cpk/Ppk; developing and maintaining PFMEA and Control Plans to identify and mitigate manufacturing risks; applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles per ASME Y14.5 standards; managing equipment buy-off and validation processes, including Factory and Site Acceptance Testing; and working with New Product Introduction cycles from prototype design to high-volume manufacturing. Salary Range: $109,000-$152,000/yr.
