Job Description

Position Overview

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Social Worker IV located in Pekin, Illinois to conduct pre-placement evaluations of individuals found Unfit to Stand Trial (UST) or Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) and ordered to the custody of DHS in Region 3 North and other adjacent regions as operationally feasible and necessary. Prepares comprehensive written reports documenting the evaluation findings and recommending the most appropriate DHS facility, based on the individual’s clinical, treatment, medical behavioral and security needs. Provides consultation and testimony concerning completed pre-placement evaluations when requested or legally required. 

Essential Functions

  • Serves as a qualified Social Work Examiner, conducting pre-placement evaluations of individuals found Unfit to Stand Trial (UST) or Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) and ordered to the custody of Department of Human Services (DHS) in Region 3 North and other adjacent regions as operationally feasible and necessary.

  • Prepares comprehensive written reports documenting the evaluation findings and recommending the most appropriate DHS facility, based on the individual’s clinical, treatment, medical, behavioral, and security needs.

  • Coordinates with Forensic Services staff, county jails, courts, sheriffs, attorneys, treatment providers, and DHS facilities to obtain necessary records, schedule evaluations, arrange access to individuals in custody, clarify court orders, and resolve barriers affecting the completion of assigned evaluations.

  • Provides consultation and testimony concerning completed pre-placement evaluations when requested or legally required.

  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of assigned cases, evaluation activities, report completion, and case status in FDS and other required Departmental records.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required that are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a master’s degree in social work from a recognized school of social work supplemented by three (3) years of supervised post master’s clinical social work practice.

  • Requires possession of a clinical social worker’s license from the Department of Professional Regulation.
Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.

  • Requires the ability to work with forensic or justice involved mentally ill population.
