Job Summary:
With supervision, the IACUC Analyst provides oversight of the daily operational activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC); manages the review and approval process of research protocols to ensure compliance with the NU Assurance, state, federal and institutional policies; supports all activities of the IACUC; conducts protocol pre-reviews including grant-protocol congruency; monitors training and occupational health enrollments; and provides training and guidance to Committee members, faculty, staff and students. The IACUC Analyst must have the ability to function independently in decision-making with protocol review and assisting the research community and colleagues with IACUC-related activities.
The position requires multi-tasking in a customer service setting where there may be multiple demands on the individual’s time. Successful incumbents must maintain a professional demeanor in order to ensure resolution.

Specific Responsibilities:
Operational Management
The goal of the following activities is to ensure that all operational priorities are aligned with the mission and direction of IACUC.
- Conducts thorough pre-review and congruency review of protocol submissions.
- Processes all new protocol submissions, addenda, annuals, and supporting documents submitted through e-Protocol to ensure, completeness and compliance with all applicable regulations, statutes, policies, and procedures.
- Provides guidance and advice to investigators and recommends changes needed regarding procedural requirements.
- Evaluates IACUC member protocol review workload, area of research expertise, and makes protocol review assignment recommendations to Chairs.
- Makes recommendations on improving communication and the protocol review processes of the IACUC office
- Creates technical letters for the research community in regards to the approval and pending status of submissions.
- Triages and processes all incoming correspondence from the IACUC, reviewers, CCM, and the research community and determines the appropriate action or response.
