ow You’ll ContributeYou'll play an important role in ensuring accurate water metering & exceptional customer service throughout the City. Whether you're installing & maintaining water meters, troubleshooting automated meter reading equipment, locating underground utilities, or assisting customers in the field, your work helps ensure reliable utility service & accurate billing for our community.
Working independently under general supervision, you'll use technical skills, sound judgment, & excellent customer service to complete a variety of field service activities while maintaining accurate records & promoting safe work practices.
Essential Duties
- Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace water meters and components of computerized meter-reading system.
- Perform field locates of underground water, sanitary/storm sewers and City-owned electric/traffic utilities using maps, plans, digital or hard copy records, GIS maps and specialized electronic detection equipment.
- Collect water meter readings on an assigned route using computerized meter-reading system and ensure readings are accurately transmitted to billing personnel.
- Perform various tasks to ensure the completeness and accuracy of meter readings. Investigate abnormal readings and circumstances.
- Perform various field service tasks, including activities such as: turn on and turn off water; investigate customer complaints; collect water samples; collect initial and final meter readings; and deliver notices.
- Maintain computerized records relating to metering, field service, and cross connection control activities.
- Maintain inventory of metering system parts and supplies.
- Troubleshoot and repair components of computerized meter reading system.
- Conduct large meter tests.
- Promote communication and information flow.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
AFSCME employees shall live within a 20-mile radius from the City’s Emergency Center, located at 1630 8th Avenue in Moline, within 180 days of hire.
