Position Overview

This PSC will serve as the Department Representative when so designated and directed by the Director or co-Director of Athletics at boxing and/or mixed martial arts events to fulfill
administrative and other regulatory duties. Ensuring contestant and other licensee compliance with and adherence to all applicable rules, regulations, and policies, and applying rules,
regulations, and policies to specific circumstances and interceding as necessary and responding as appropriate to any violation of such rules, regulations and policies.

• The PSC shall assist the Department in the execution of procedures and rules for statewide professional boxing and martial arts events and amateur martial arts events. PSCs shall assist the Department in the administration of duties at the weigh ins.


• The PSC shall remain with their assigned contestant at an event once a contestant has been officially checked in by the Department.


• The PSC shall visually witness the wrapping of contestants’ hands with no more than the legal amount of gauze and tape.


• The PSC shall initial (mark) the wraps to ensure that no alterations can be made after the hand wrapping has been witnessed.


• The PSC shall thoroughly inspect the gloves which have been provided directly from the promoter. The PSC shall inspect the gloves, inside and out, so as to determine that they are clean, whole and free of defect. The PSC shall witness the contestant putting the gloves on and the proper taping of the gloves over the contestants’ wrists and laces. The PSC shall initial (mark) that tape as well (for same reason as stated in (4)).


• After the handwrapping and/or gloving, the PSC shall remain with the contestant at all times. Prior to competition, the PSC shall administer a complete “top to bottom” visual inspection where the PSC literally reviews the contestant from the top of his/her head (the facial area, making sure the contestant has a mouthpiece and no facial, neck or ear jewelry); to
  the middle of his/her body to the waist (making sure the contestant has on the correct fighting attire and gear); to the hands (making sure the contestant has on the proper size gloves (taped
  and initialed); to the bottom of his/her waist to the toes (making sure the contestant has the proper foot gear with the laces secured).


• Once the PSC is notified to leave the dressing room to escort the contestant to the fighting area, (s)he shall remain with the contestant for the duration of the bout until the contestant returns to the dressing room or has been released by the Department post-bout. While in the corner, the PSC shall monitor the contestant and seconds between rounds and is to be vigilant for any possible improprieties that might occur by the seconds and/or the contestant. The PSC shall notify Department and/or the appropriate official when any such impropriety arises. The Managing Lead Inspector and/or the Chief Inspector are responsible for assisting with administrative duties at weigh ins and are to ensure that all PSC’s have been properly assigned to bouts, are at their assigned posts, and communicate any issues with Department staff throughout the course of the weigh in and event. While all PSCs are responsible for observing contestants pout-bout for real or potential health-related issues, the Chief Inspector shall provide supervision and direction liaising with the assigned PSC, Department staff and medical personnel.


• The PSCs shall assist the Department in witnessing the purse payments to the contestants.


• At the conclusion of the event, the PSC shall assist the Department with the completion of gate and/or broadcast revenue reports and/or payments which may include the retrieval of the final ticket manifest and/or ticket stubs from the promoter.


• The PSC, as directed, shall remain with Department personnel until after the conclusion of the event once the dressing rooms, event floor and any other contestant assigned areas have been observed to be free and clear of any remaining contestants. The PSC shall return any outstanding forms and equipment to Department staff before exiting the weigh in and/or event venue.

• Have knowledge of mixed martial arts event procedures rules pursuant to the Boxing and Full Contact Martial Arts Act (205 ILCS 105)

• Requires a valid driver’s license and auto insurance in order to commute throughout the state if needed.


• Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.

• Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent
