Job Description
Essential Functions
- Develops routine to extremely complex structural standards which incorporate current methods and technology.
- Produces design computations utilized in the preparation of structural plans.
- Aids in the updating of design policy documents including the Bridge Manual, Culvert Manual, Design Guides, and All Bridge Design Memoranda.
- Reviews and recommends approval/disapproval of proprietary products for qualified product lists in Illinois.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Four years of experience in civil, structural, or bridge engineering.
- Extensive knowledge of civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of the principles of civil engineering with an emphasis on bridge design and construction.
- Requires a valid drivers license.
- Requires occasional statewide and out-of-state travel with overnight stays.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
- Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
